Winnsboro, La., age when enlisted 18, single. Absent on furlough in _, Miss. A noble soldier. Robert Scott was born in Holmes County, MS on Oct. 21st, 1842 and was the brother of John and Henry Scott of the same Company. Robert was still single and farming in Winnsboro when he decided to be a substitute for his brother, Henry, and replaced him at Camp Bellevue, Virginia on March 13th, 1862. Henry came home on furlough and Robert went back in his place, which was acceptable to his officers. Robert was wounded at Gaines Mill, VA with a bullet in the head. He carried the minie ball in his head the rest of his life. The only complaint he ever had was that his head hurt in very hot weather. Robert rejoined his command and was wounded in the right wrist at Bristoe Station on Aug. 27th, 1862. He was promoted to 4th Corporal on June 30th, 1863 and to 3rd Corporal in Sept. 1863. Robert was promoted to 3rd Sergeant on April 30th, 1864. He was then wounded at Monocacy, MD on July 9th, 1864 and wounded a fourth time at 3rd Winchester on Sept. 19th, 1864. Robert was given a furlough of indulgence and was at home at the war's end. He farmed the rest of his life. He married Annie Eliza Jones on Oct. 15th, 1867 in Harrison County, TX but soon returned to Franklin Parish, LA. Robert died of the effects of paralysis of the bowels on Sept. 19th, 1923 in Crowville, LA and is buried in the Harris Cemetery in Crowville.
