Barfield, Private, Company E 8th Louisiana Infantry Zachariah T. Barfield was the son of Mills and Mary Barfield and he was the brother of Francis, Benjamin and George. He left his farm in Winnsboro and enlisted at New Orleans June 19, 1861. He was detailed as a teamsterin the Brigade Wagon Yard and then as a driver in the Ambulance Corps train. Zachariah was wounded at Bristoe Station on August 27, 1862. He was paroled at Appomattox Court House on April 10, 1865. Zachariah returned home and married Mary E. Johnson on Jan. 14, 1869 in Franklin Parish.
