W. G. Bridges, well known former merchant of Winnsboro, committed suicide last Sunday morning near the nine o'clock hour. His son, who had started to leave for Shreveport where he works, was on his way to his father's room, when he heard a gun shot. He rushed into the room to find his father lying on the floor with a bullet from a 32-calibre pistol having passed through his brain. Mr. Bridges had been in the mercantile business in Winnsboro for the past twenty-three years. Several weeks ago he sold his entire stock of dry goods and rented his business house to Renfrow & Son of Jena. He sold his stock of groceries to E. J. Kiper of Winnsboro last week and closed all his business transactions Saturday. Both he and his wife have been in ill health for the past several years. Mr. Bridges is well known in this section of the state. He was noted for his honesty and integrity and was very successful in business. He has made a host of friends and was loved by many. He was highly respected by everyone with whom he came in contact. Surviving the diseased are his wife, two sons, Arval and Ola, both of Shreveport and a multitude of other relatives and friends. Interment was made in the Winnsboro cemetery on Monday afternoon at two o'clock.
