All rights reserved. http://theusgenweb.net/copyright.htm http://theusgenweb.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA October 25, 1956 Former Resident Dies When Crushed by Log In Saw Mill Tragedy A resident of Winnsboro for many years and long-time saw-mill worker, Eugene Nelson Brown, 66, lately of Holly Ridge, was crushed to death by a falling log at the George Franklin & Son mill at Holly Ridge Tuesday. According to witnesses, the mill skid, a moving device, slipped and sent a log crashing on top of the victim, killing him instantly. The tragedy occurred around 2 p.m. as Mr. Brown worked on the skid. Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Mer Rouge cemetery. Survivors are a half-brother, E. D, Smith of Bastrop, and a host of nieces and nephews.
