Coleman who was driving the car was pinned beneath the automobile which had capsized, and was drowned. There were several other negroes with Coleman, according to reports, but it appears that they all left the scene of the accident immediately after the overturn, leaving Coleman pinned beneath the steering wheel. The report further states that one of the men had returned to the place when the accident was discovered. Coleman was working on the plantation belonging to Mr. Richard Ward.
