VICKSBURG HERALD, July 28th -- Information has reached us of a serious disturbance in Franklin parish, La. It seems from the statements made to us, that a body of desperadoes, black and white, something near two hundred in number, invaded Franklin parish early last week, and began a system of highway robbery on a high scale. The citizens becoming alarmed for their safety banded together, and on last Thursday night met the miscreants, and killed fifteen negroes and five of the white men. The freebooters then began a retreat, closely pursued by their incensed assailants. They were followed to St. Joseph, where all trace of them was lost. The whole country was in a state of excitement and under arms. There were some apprehensions entertained of an attack at other points, and the citizens to guard against such a prospect put armed sentinels about their residences and on the roads. At Duckport, just above this place, in Louisiana, there was some firing for two nights, (Saturday and Sunday,) between the guards stationed there and parties who attempted to enter, but as far as we can learn no one was killed.
