Riding with him was his brother, aged 9, who related the story to those who reached the scene of the accident. The lights on the truck were in poor condition and visability was almost impossible, but Hitt kept driving in order to reach home. The truck suddenly swerved and went off the road, overturning and throwing the younger brother several feet away. Abbie was pinned underneath the truck where he lay gasping under the gasoline tank which had burst and was pouring liquid into his face. He called to his little brother for aid. The youth could not see in the darkness and when he reached the truck he lighted a match near the gas tank which caused an explosion and burned Abbie to death. The last remains of the youth were placed at rest in the Oak Grove Cemetery Monday afternoon. ------------------------------------------------------
