Highway Accident Kills Parish Man

 

James Dewey Polk of Rt. 3, Winnsboro, was killed instantly Monday afternoon when a 

pickup truck he was driving overturned on La. Hwy. 838 about 9 1/4 miles west 

of West Monroe. He was traveling to Monroe when the mishap occured.

 

Investigating troopers said that Polk apparently lost control of his truck while 

traveling around a curve. The vehicle skidded off the right side of the highway and 

overturned several times. Polk was thrown from the truck's cab and killed instantly.

 

The truck skidded approximately 200 feet off the right side of the highway, which was 

curving to the left, overturned several times and traveled another 85 feet before coming 

to a stop, state police reported.
