All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** ---------------------------------------------------- The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA December 19, 1929 Dead Body Of Negro Woman Found Tuesday Head Was Crushed with Blunt Instrument The dead body of a negro woman, Virginia Scott by name, was found Tuesday morning about five o'clock by a negro man who was passing by, in North Winnsboro, on the North side of Ash Slough. The woman's head had been beaten with a blunt instrument to such an extent that death was the result. The woman had been killed sometime during the night and the body had been dragged about forty feet from the place of the killing. It had been placed behind a small patch of undergrowth. Negro families living near the scene of the crime state they heard screams during the night, but did not investigate. At present the murderer has not been apprehended, but there are three men in jail, being held as suspects in the act. The coroners' jury had not reached a verdict at the latest report. ------------------------------------------------------
