Percy Near Collinston An unidentified man, in company with Randolph Percy, of Winnsboro, and A. F. McCalob, of Monroe, was killed in an automobile wreck that occurred on last Monday about one mile from Collinston on the Collinston-Monroe road. Messrs. Percy and McCalob were enroute to Monroe and had stopped at a service station and cafe in Collinston. A man, whom neither of the two had ever seen asked for a ride to Monroe if the men were going that way. He was told that they were going only part of the way at the present, but that he could ride as far as they were going. It was a little past dark when the man asked for the ride. Mr. Percy was driving his own car, a Nash sedan. About a mile out of Collinston the roads fork, and there is where the accident occurred. Mr. Percy, not knowing the road very well was driving along at a rather fast rate and did not see the turn at the forks until he was almost upon it. Mr. Percy had to either try to make the turn or run into the ditch beyond the curve. The turn was attempted and the car was moving too fast to successfully complete the bend. A sharp swerve was made and the automobile was turned completely around, facing the opposite direction. When a stop was made the body of the unidentified man was found on the opposite side of the highway. He was instantly killed. Mr. Percy is of the opinion that the door gave away and the man was thrown out or else he jumped when he saw what would be attempted. Events happened so rapidly at that particular time that no one could connect them. The body of the man was placed in the hands of a Bastrop coroner. Mr. McCalob received two broken ribs, a dislocated shoulder, a wrenched back and a severe wound on the leg. Mr. Percy escaped with only a few bruises. Both right wheels of the car were smashed, along with the two fenders of the same side. The right door was broken and the running board was shattered.
