POLAND PASSES TO GREAT BEYOND Again we have been brought face to face with the awful realities of death, for on September 15, 1936, one of our beloved citizens, W.I. Poland, passed away. He had been failing in health for several years and the last ten or twelve months he had suffered much; most of the time confined to his bed. Mr. Poland was born and reared in Louisiana. He moved to Texas about 25 years ago and made his home near Conroe for the past five years. He was 63 years old at the time of his death. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs. Laura Poland; five daughters, Mesdames Elsie Tucker, of Dunn, La., Myra Conley, Ringgold, La., Myrtis Mott, Magnolia, Texas; Ratha Cox, Tomball, Texas; and Miss Lillie V. Poland, Conroe; three sons, Claton Poland, Hingman, Ariz.; Tom and Tempton Poland of Conroe; four brothers, Ben and String Poland of Crowville, La., and R.C. and Emmett Poland of Conroe, and two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Hays and Mrs. Winnie Elliot. Mr. Poland was patient through all of his suffering and manifested a noble and true Christian spirit. As Paul said in 2 Cor. 4;16, "but though outward man may perish; yet the inward man is renewed day by day." As his frail body wasted away his spirit became more and more patient and gentle and his faith grew stronger. The writer visited and prayed with Brother Poland many times and talked to him about his hope of eternal life. He said that he had made his calling and election sure and that he was resigned to the Master's will. When the end came, he calmly fell asleep in Jesus. The funeral services were held by the writer in the Baptist Church at Cut and Shoot. We laid him to rest in the Community Graveyard near the church to await the blessed call of the first Resurrection. Brother Poland was a faithful, loving father, a devoted husband, and a noble brother, citizen and friend. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be missed by all. The following lines are dedicated to his memory: It is sad to know that the time has come That this precious loved one of the home Has ceased to walk along the way; To comfort our hearts from day to day. His spirit has flown from the silent clay; To await the call of the Resurrection day When we again shall see his face; Shinng with Heaven's holy grace. Then through the eternal years to come; Together we live in a more perfect home; And with loved ones on that blissful shore Never again to part, no never no more. J.A.
