Boyle Dies At Home here Sunday John M. Boyle, age 63 a native of Franklin parish died at his home Sunday at 9 a.m. after a three-day illness Mr. Boyle lived in Winnsboro most of his life and spent the majority of his last years farming on his place on the Rayville road. He was a member of the Baptist church and the Woodmen of the World. He was held in highest esteem by all who knew him and his sudden demise was a shock to numberless friends throughout this section. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at four o'clock and interment was made in the new Winnsboro cemetery. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Dana Terry, pastor of the Baptist church here. Services at the grave were under the direction of the Winnsboro Camp Woodmen of the World. Mr. Boyle is survived by his wife; three sons, Douglas Boyle of Winnsboro, Rhodes Boyle of Sunray, Texas and Edward R. Boyle of Winnsboro; five daughters, Mrs. J.L. Fairley of Winnsboro, Mrs. Ray Eldridge of Sanford, Texas, Mrs. Leonard Woods of Winnsboro, Mrs. William Beach of Rayville and Mrs. Sam Siddon of Winnsboro; several grandchildren; and two brothers, Joe Boyle and Mack Boyle, and a half-brother, Jimmie Burns, all three of Winnsboro. ********************* The Franklin Sun February 2, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Boughton Infant Dies James Bayard Boughton, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. H.D. Boughton, of Baskin, died last Friday, January 27th, at the home of his parents. Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Hixon cemetery. The infant is survived by his father and mother and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Thornton of Baskin and Mrs. F.S. Boughton of Antioch, La. *********************** The Franklin Sun February 2, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Father of Local Woman Dies in Alexandria Early Tuesday Morn James Bingley Wright, 60 father of Mrs. J.D. Brown of Winnsboro, and president of the Bank of Jena, succumbed to a lingering illness early Tuesday morning at an Alexandria hospital. Mr. Wright was for many years a prominent figure in business circles of Jena and LaSalle parish. Prior to entering the banking field some years ago, he was engaged in the mercantile business in Jena. He resided there for the past 58 years. Surving relatives are his wife, a son, J.Q. Wright of Baton Rouge, connected with the office of the state supervisor of public accounts; and two daughters, Mrs. C.H. Davis of Jena and Mrs. Brown of Winnsboro. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Jena First Baptist church. Interment was made at the Nolly Memorial cemetery. Several persons from here were present at the funeral, including Sheriff Ed Randall and his wife and Deputy Berry Gardner and his wife. ******************** The Franklin Sun February 2, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Tad Poland, Age 38, Dies at Rayville Tad Poland, age 38, died at Rayville Saturday afternoon at the home of his sister, Mrs. Winnie Elliot. Mr. Poland made his home in Oak Grove, but is survived by relatives living in Franklin parish. Mr. Poland had been confined to bed several weeks before his death. Interment was made Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Harris cemetery at Lone Pine, with the Methodist pastor of Rayville officiating. Mr. Poland is survived by his wife, Eunie Poland; two sons Lenard and Buddy; and three daughters, Louise Poland of Oak Grove, and Wennona Poland, and Mrs. Lois Carlisle and daughter of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by three brothers, Ben and String Poland of Winnsboro and R.C. Poland of Oak Grove; two sisters, Mrs. Elliott of Rayville and Mrs. Correy Hughes of Delhi and a number of nieces and nephews. ***************** The Franklin Sun Feb. 16, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Parish Resident Dies Here Thursday Mrs. Mary Jane Fife, mother of a son and two daughters, died in a hospital here Thursday, February 9 at the age of 69. Mrs. Fife made her home near Baskin. Services were held by Rev. J.H. Keyes at Union church, Friday at 3 p.m. Mrs Fife is survived by her son Ernest Fife, of New York, and two daughters, Mrs. Lucille Hemphill of Baskin and Mrs. Louise Eppinette of near Baskin. Funeral services were directed by the Winnsboro Funeral Home. ******************** The Franklin Sun Feb. 16, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Pneumonia Fatal To Baskin Farmer After Ten-Day Illness Floyd Alfred Kemp, 29-year old farmer of near Baskin, died at a hopital here Saturday, February 11, about 3 p.m. He had been suffering with pneumonia for little more than a week; Funeral services were held at four o'clock Monday afternoon, with Rev. Smith officiating. Interment followed at the Oakley cemetery. Mr. Kemp is survived by his wife and three small children, and numerous other relatives. The funeral was under the direction of the Winnsboro Funeral Home. ********************* The Franklin Sun Feb. 16, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Winnsboro Woman Dies Suddenly In Vicksburg Hospital Mrs. Dallas Mays died unexpectedly Monday afternoon at 4:30 in a Vicksburg hospital, after having been taken to Vicksburg Friday morning for an operation. Mrs. Mays had suffered from a periodic complaint, but the seriousness of her condition was not realized by her many friends and acquaintances. Mrs. Mays, who is survived by her husband and one son, James, formerly lived in Ruston. She and her husband had been living in Winnsboro for the past 16 years. She was a member of the Baptist church here and a very active worker in the Sunday School department. Mrs. Mays had been employed by Bradley Bros. for 14 years. The funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, with Rev. Dana Terry, pastor of the Baptist church, officiating. He was assisted by the Ruston pastor a Mr. Lockwood. Interment followed in the new Winnsboro cemetery. Active pallbearers were John Langford, Ramage Adams, N.D. Womble, Dr. McH. Greer, M.L. Guice and J.D. Brown. Mrs. Mays is also survived by her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hardin, of Ruston; three sisters, Mrs. Frazier of Winnfield, Mrs. Sam Wallace of Ruston and Mrs. Henry Mays of Ruston; and two brothers, Tim Hardin and Dave Hardin, of Ruston. The Funeral was under the direction of the Lowry Funeral Home. ******************** The Franklin Sun February 23, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease WISNER RESIDENT DIES IN MONROE AFTER OPERATION William Arthur Martin Was Prominent Citizen; Had Been Living In Wisner 30 Years William Arthur Martin of Wisner 55 died last Saturday afternoon at a Monroe sanitarium as a result of an operation he had undergone there. Mr. Martin was born at Morris Chapel, Tenn., and came to Wisner 30 years ago. He was a valued employee of the Metropolis Bending Company for a number of years, and when the company's timber supply was exhausted in 1928, he became connected with the Fisher Lumber corporation, where he was employed until his death. Mr. Martin was highly respected by officials of both companies. He was a member of Dan Gilbert Lodge No. 405, F. & A. M., Wisner, La., and was very proficient in Masonic ritual work. He served as an officer of the lodge for nearly fifteen years and exhibited an interest in the work unsurpassed by any other member of the community. Mr. Martin was also a member of the Methodist church. He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Mrs. John C. Tucker of Monroe, Misses Vivian, Barbara and Edith Bell Martin; one son, James Martin of Wisner; one brother, L.Z. Martin, Sr., of Wisner; four sisters, Mrs. Isabelle Warren of Moline, Ill., Mrs Lillian Lunquist of Alpena, Mich., Mrs. Josie Crowder of Chatanooga, Tenn., and Mrs. Mary Frazier of Selma, Tenn; also his mother Mrs. Francis Smith of Moline. Funeral services were held at the Wisner Methodist church at 2 p.m. Monday, Rev. F.J. McCoy officiating. Dr. D. Strickland of Monroe directed an impressive Masonic ceremony at the interment in Holly Grove cemetery. Active pallbearers were C.G. Webb, W.J. Watson, Fitzhugh Lee, J.G. Mitchell, S.A. Morgan, C.C. Hopkins, G.K. Laughlan and J. A. Turner. ****************************
