Wilson **************************** **************************** The Franklin Sun March 2, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Last Rites Held For J. H. Emfinger Friday at 2:30 The death of J. Harrison Emfinger at 8 p.m. last Thursday occasioned a distinct loss to his community of Jigger and the parish as a whole. Mr. Emfinger died at the age of 53 with numerous relatives and friends at the bedside. He was born and reared in Franklin County, Miss., and came to Franklin parish in 1923, where he has since resided. His friends and family will long remember him for his character and fine spirit. Funeral services were held at his home Friday at 2:30 and interment followed at Oakley cemetery. Officiating at the last rites of Mr. Emfinger was Rev. McLemore, Wisner. The deceased is survived by his wife; and five sons and three daughters, who are Edgar Emfinger, New Orleans, Elma Emfinger, Gilbert, Roddie Emfinger, Winnsboro, Blueford and J.L. Emfinger of Jigger, Mrs. Coy Tullos, Winnsboro and Mrs. Howard Johnson and Miss Aubrey Mae Emfinger of Jigger. Services were conducted by the Winnsboro Funeral Home. ************** The Franklin Sun March 2, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Funeral Held for W.C. Fowler A sudden heart attack Tuesday at 6 p.m. was fatal to W.C. Fowler, age 60 years. Mr. Fowler made his home in Winnsboro and is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son who also live in Winnsboro. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday and interment was made at 4 p.m. in the new Winnsboro cemetery. Rev. C.S. Wroten officiated. The funeral was under direction of the Winnsboro Funeral Home. **************************** The Franklin Sun March 23 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Last Rites Held For Ft. Necessity Man John Hollin Lisonbee, 81 year old resident of Ft. Necessity, died at a local hopital Friday, March 17. Funeral services were held at the White Swan cemetery. Saturday at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dove officiating. Mr. Lisonbee is survived by his wife and six children. He also leaves 21 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were directed by Mulhearn Funeral Home. ************** The Franklin Sun March 16, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Dalton Lee Myres Services Held For Four-Month Old Dalton Lee Myres, four -month old son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Lee Myres, died at his fathers's home on the St. Joseph road at 11:15 Monday night. Funeral services were held at the new Winnsboro cemetery at 2 p.m. Tuesday, with Rev. Hawthorne of Chase officiating. The child is survived by his father and mother and grandparents. Services were conducted by the Mulhearn funeral Home. ********************* The Franklin Sun March 30, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Funeral Held For Ernest Parker, 43, On Last Saturday The funeral of Ernest Parker, 43, World War veteran and operator of a shoe store in Tallulah, who died of pneumonia, meningitis, was held Saturday morning at Crowville with Rev. Charles Wroten, Baptist minister, officiating. Surviving relatives are his wife; three daughters, Charlotte, Alice and Hazel Jean Parker; a son Edward Parker; two brothers, Dalton and Bruce Parker; two sisters, Mrs. Ocie Smith and Mrs. Doyle Wroten; and his father, J.E. Parker of Crowville. **************************** The Franklin Sun March 2, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Mrs. Sarah Posey Parish Loses Old Resident In Death Of Mrs. Sarah Posey The parish lost one of its oldest residents Tuesday morning in the death of Mrs. Sarah Posey, aged 86, who died in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Maud Myer, one mile out on the Lone Cedar road. Mrs. Posey had been a lifetime resident of Franklin parish and had been a member of the Baptist church for over 50 years. Her husband was the late Jeff Beauregard Posey. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Oak Grove Baptist church. Rev. J. H. Keys, Baptist minister, officiated. Mrs. Posey is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Maud Myer, Mrs. Mattie Posey and Mrs. Dora Grimshaw; one sister, Miss Mary Fife, and one brother, G. M. Fife, all of Winnsboro; 29 grandchildren and 43 great-gandchildren. Services were conducted by the Winnsboro Funeral Home. The Franklin Sun March 30, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease VETERAN OF WORLD WAR DIES AT ALEXANDRIA Ben C. Short Passed Away March 23, After Long Illness Ben Carter Short, aged 42, died Thursday, March 23, at 2:30 a.m., at the Veterans Hospital in Alexandria after an illness of about three years. Interment was made in the new Winnsboro cemetery Friday afternoon, at 3 o'clock, Diamond-Hawthorne Post, American Legion having charge of the obsequies. The religious services were conducted by Rev. Dana Terry and Rev. O.L. Tucker, of the Baptist and Methodist churches respectively in this city. He was a member of the Veterans Hopital Post of American Legion at Alexandria. Mr. Short was a native of Winnsboro and was one of the first to volunteer when the United States entered the World War. He is survived by one son, Ben R. Short of Shreveport, and his mother Mrs. Cora C. Short of Winnsboro. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Wheeler of Natchez, Miss., MIss Alie Short of Shreveport, and Mrs. Florence Bartmess of Baton Rouge, and two brothers, E.J. Short and Frank P. Short of Winnsboro. ***************************** The Franklin Sun March 9, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Mrs. Cora Simons Chase Woman Dies At Hopital Sunday Mrs. Cora Simons, 31 died Sunday afternoon at six o'clock in a local hospital. Mrs. Simons, who lived near Chase is survived by her husband, W.N. Simons, and seven children. Services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, with Rev. J.H. Keys officiating. Mrs. Simons was buried in the Liddieville cemetery. Funeral services were directed by the Winnsboro Funeral Home. ******************* The Franklin Sun March 2, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Wilmeth Marie Stroud 8 Year Old Girl Dies From Spider Bite Wilmeth Marie Stroud, eight year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Stroud of Crowville, died Monday night in a hospital here. Death was caused by the bite several days ago of a poisonous spider. The little girl was brought to Winnsboro when she gave signs of being seriously upset by the spider's bite, but the poison had circulated in her body and nothing could be done. Services were conducted Wednesday at the Baptist church in Crowville and interment followed at the Masonic cemetery there. Rev. Holliday officiated at the services. The child is survived by her parents and one sister, Betty Jean, age three. Services conducted by the Winnsboro Funeral Home. The Franklin Sun March 16, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease World War Veteran Dies In Alexandria Albert Wiggins, World War Veteran who lived on the Lone Cedar road, died at the veteran's hospital in Alexandria last Thursday, Surviving Mr. Wiggins are his wife, three children and several brothers. He was buried at the Oak Grove cemetery at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, where an impressive ceremony was presided over by Rev. Tom Ratcliff. The flag that draped his coffin was presented to Mrs. Wiggins after the interment services. The funeral was directed by the Winnsboro Funeral Home. **************** The Franklin Sun March 30, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease J.E. Wilson Died Tuesday, March 21 J.E. Wilson, aged 59, well known farmer of near Gilbert, died at a local infirmary Tuesday of last week, following a short illness of "flu". Deceased was a native of MIssissippi, but had been a citizen of Louisiana for many years and a resident of Franklin parish nine years. Interment was at Oakley cemetery Wednesday, the sevices being conducted by Rev. McCoy, pastor of the Methodist church at Wisner. Deceased leaves a wife, and six children, four boys and two girls. Archie, Joseph, Frances, Thomas, Annie Mae and David. ************************
