Willis ***************** The Franklin Sun June 8, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease James Harold Fletcher Crowville Man Is Killed Monday By Bolt of Lightning A bolt of lightning struck and killed James Harold Fletcher, 22 year old farmer of Crowville, about 2:30 Monday afternoon as he was riding horseback with an unidentified companion. The horse on which Fletcher was riding was also killed. Fletcher's companion was knocked unconscious by the bolt and the man's horse was also stunned. The lightning flash evidently struck Fletcher in the top of his head. The straw hat he was wearing was completely torn up, but there was not a mark on the youth's body. He is survived by his father, Joseph L. Fletcher, and several brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon and interment followed at four o'clock in the Crowville cemetery, under the direction of Rev. J.H. Keyes. The Winnsboro Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements. ************************ The Franklin Sun June 22, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Prominent Woman Claimed By Death Here Friday Night Mrs. Georgia Etta King Expires At Age 78; Was Old Parish Resident Mrs. Georgia Etta King, 78, member of a prominent local family, died Friday night at a Winnsboro clinic after a brief illness. Mrs. King, widow of Early Mack King had made her home for many years at the King plantation near here. She is survived by three sons, W.A. King of Natchez, Miss., K.E. King of Winnsboro, H.M. King of Alexandria; two daughters, Misses Grace and Eva King of Winnsboro; a sister Miss Kate Brinsfield, of Winnsboro; a foster-son, Odell Gillispie of Winnsboro; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Winnsboro First Methodist church with the pastor, Rev. O.L. Tucker, officiating. Burial followed in the old Winnsboro cemetery. Mrs. King was born March 23, 1861 near Vicksburg, Miss., on the Louisiana side. In later years she came to Franklin parish to make her home. She and Mr. King were married February 22, 1884. Mr. King died in December, 1927 Mrs. King's parents were George Femdrick and Elizabeth Brinsfield. Active pallbearers at her funeral were J.C. Buie, Foster Kincaid, George Wiggers, Nolan Moore, Dr. McHenry Greer and Dr. L.F. Robinson. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. J.D. Rogers, Ernest Mason, E.D. Walter, Will Sullivan. M. Bradley, B.S. Landis, and Dr. J.P. Henry. Funeral arrangements were made under direction of the Lowry Funeral Home. *********************** The Franklin Sun June 29, 1939 Submitted by: Karen Sue McNease Mrs. Nancy Ann Talbert Mangham Woman Dies Late Monday Night At Home Mrs. Nancy Ann Talbert, of Mangham, aged 40, died at her home late Monday night, June 26. Funeral services were held at the Mangham Baptist church at three o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Interment followed in the Mangham cemetery. The Rev. Baxter officiated. Mrs. Talbert is survived by her husband, L.F. Talbert; four sons, George, Leon, Henry and Rochell; and three sisters, Mrs. Ada Coleman of Sicily Island, Mrs. Rose Spears of Gilbert and Mrs. Mae Ervin of Mangham. Active pallbearers at the funeral Tuesday were Virgil Smith, Bill Montgomery, Adams Childress, Buddy Hixon and Clee Tillman, Sr. ****************** The Franklin Sun June 22, 1939 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Two-Year Old Dies In Local Hospital After Short Illness Clark B. Willis, two year old son of Mr. and Mrs. V.Q. Willis, of near Crowville, died Thursday, June 8 at a Winnsboro clinic. Whooping Cough and Cholotis were given as causes for his death. The child had been sick for several weeks and died within a few hours after being brought here. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. S.S. Holliday of Delhi. Interment was made at Coax cemetery. Surviving members of the family are Mr. and Mrs. Willis , Cordill, a brother to Clark, and two sisters, Misses Vera and Jo Allen Willis. ************************
