Baskin Died Saturday Member of One of Parish's Oldest Settler Families Robert M. Baskin, 78, well known Franklin parish plantation owner, died at his home in Baskin Saturday at 1 o'clock. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at Union church near Baskin with the Rev. N. B. Gibbs, Presbyterian minister of Winnsboro, officiating. Interment followed in Union church cemetery. The Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro had charge of funeral arrangements. Mr. Baskin had lived his whole life in this parish and was a descendant of one of the parish's oldest settlers. His friends in this section knew him affectionately as "Uncle Bob". At different times Mr. Baskin had served as a member of the parish school board and the police jury. Up until the time of his death Mr. Baskin was an active planter and stock raiser. His wife was a Miss Patsy Bell before her marriage. She died two years ago. This parish loses a valuable citizen and a colorful old settler in the death of Mr. Baskin. He is survived by three sons, John A. Baskin and George M. Baskin, of Baskin and Robert M. Baskin, Jr., of South America; two daughters, Mrs. W. O. Bell, of West Monroe, and Miss Margaret Baskin of Baskin; and a foster son, Robert M. Bell, of Greenville, Miss. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. R. E. King, Dr. J. R. Frellsen, Dr. McConnell, Dr. Sheppard, B. S. Landis, Sr., Wood H. Thompson, Mack Bradley, W. Frey, Sr., N. T. Mock, Will Lyles, C. L. Barmore, L. B. Archibald, Leo Richardson, E. D. Walter, J. C. Reese, and all his friends everywhere. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA October 5, 1939 Submitted May 2007 by Glenda Warner Boyd Hold Last Rites In Crowville For Mrs. Laura Davis Last rites for Mrs. Laura Lee Davis, 38, of Shreveport, who died at Shreveport Friday, were held at the Crowville cemetery Saturday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. Following funeral services at 10:30 a.m. at Shreveport with Rev. Loyce O. Waldo officiating, the funeral procession went to Crowville where interment took place with Rev. C. S. Wroten, Baptist minister, officiating at the grave. The funeral was under the direction of the Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband Charles E. Davis, of Shreveport; a daughter, Pauline Davis, of Shreveport; and her mother, Mrs. Genevieve Knight of Winnsboro. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA October 5, 1939 Submitted May 2007 by Glenda Warner Boyd Final Rites Held In Pineville For Frank Hart Frank Hart, 25, for the past several years tacher (sic teacher) and football coach at Gilbert high school, died in a New Orleans hospital Monday morning at 2:55. His death will be a distinct loss to the faculty and student body of Gilbert high school, as well as to numerous friends all over this section. His body was shipped from New Orleans to Pineville where funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the First Baptist church of Pineville. Interment followed in the Greenwood cemetery. Officiating ministers were Dr. Knight, the Rev, Brakefield and Dr. Wood, all of Louisiana College. Frank was graduated from the Crowville high school and attended Louisiana College, where he was a star athlete on the track team. He later went to the Louisiana State university and continued to participate in track events. Frank is survived by his wife, two sisters, Mrs. Neil Netherland, Winnsboro and Miss Maxie Bell Hart, Laurel, Mis.; two brothers, J. E. Hart of Newellton and Marvin Hart of Winnsboro; his step-mother, Mrs. Pearit Hart of Newellton; and five half-brothers, all of whom live in Newellton. Active pallbearers at the funeral were J. E. Hart, Marvin Hart, Lanier Hart, Devon Payne, and Herman Netherland. The sixth pallbearer was the coach at Louisiana college. The Winnsboro Funeral Home was in charge of all funeral arrangements. ----------------------------------- The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA October 5, 1939 Submitted May 2007 by Glenda Warner Boyd Mrs. Jessie Rogers Liddieville Woman Dies Last Thursday Mrs. Jessie Rogers, of near Liddieville, did (sic died) last Wdnesday (sic Wednesday) in a Shreveport hospital. Funeral services for th (sic the) deceased were held Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the home of Robert Cuave. Mrs. Rogers was 52 at the time of her death. She is survived by several sons and daughters. The Rev. A. C. Trapp officiated at the funeral services and at the interment in the Liddieville cemetery.
