Moore ******************************************* The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA January 4, 1940 Submitted by: Glenda Warner Boyd Mrs. Sarah Hawsey, 87, Is Dead Here After Short Illness Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Hawsey, 87, who died in a Winnsboro clinic after a short illness, were held at the Sardis Baptist church near Winnfield Saturday morning at 11 o'clock with Rev. R. H. Keys officiating. Interment followed in Sardis cemetery under the direction of the Winnsboro Funeral Home. Mrs. Hawsey is survived by a son, A. J. Hawsey of Winnsboro; three daughters, Mrs. Hattie Hayles of Montogmery, Mrs. Kate Barrow of Bluff Springs, Fla., and Mrs. Queenie Matthews of El Dorado, Ark.; and a sister, Mrs. Liddy White of Bayonnette, Ala. Submitter's note: Sarah Bonita Fuller was born December 16, 1851 in Conecuh Co. Alabama. She married Andrew Jackson Hawsey, Sr. on December 10, 1872 in Conecuh County, Alabama. She died December 29, 1939 and is preceded in death by her husband, one son, Ransom James Hawsey and one daughter. **************************************** The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA January 18, 1940 Submitted May 2007 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Mrs. W. T. Moore Dies Last Monday Mrs. W. T. Moore, 82-year-old member of on (sic one) of Franklin parish's first families, died at her home at Fort Necessity last Monday morning after a two-day sickness. She was buried in the family cemetery at Extension last Tuesday afternoon. Father Lnard assisted by Father Vandegar officiated at the funeral. Both priests are from Monroe. Except for a short time when she attended the now extinct Sacred Heart convent near New Orleans, Mrs. Moore spent her entire life in Franklin parish from 1858, when she was born on Beouf (sic Boeuf) Prairie, until just a few days ago. She was the daughter of E. J. Pearce, an early settler woh (sic who) migrated from Alabama. Her mother was Zelia Ann Buie. In 1882 Miss Pearce became Mrs. Moore. She married W. T. Moore who settled in Franklin parish when he was 17. He came from Virginia. All this was before there was a town named Winnsboro, but in 1898, Mrs. Moore moved to Winnsboro, a young struggling town, in order to give her children an education. She stayed here until 189? when she moved back to Fort Necessity. Mrs. Moore was survived by two sons, a daughter, and nine granchildren. The tow (sic two) sons are W. E. Moore and A. A. Moore, both of Fort Necessity. Her daughter, Mrs. J. J. Harrison, lives in Winnsboro. Pallbearers were Walter Clinton, Nuttle Dailey, Milton Dailey, John Dailey, Charlie Grayson and Joe Brock. The funeral arrangements were handled by the Lowry Funeral Home. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
