Arnold Double Rites Are Held For Auto Accident Victims Double funeral rites were conducted the afternoon of December 27 for Mrs. Myrtle K. Arnold, 22 and W. B. Arnold, 17, her step-brother, who were killed Christmas day in an automobile smash-up near Choudrant. Burial was in the Central church cemetery near Wisner, with the Rev. M. L. Lee officiating and Mulhearn Funeral home of Winnsboro in charge. K. Ferrington Mrs. J. K. Ferrington Leaves 151 Survivors At Death Sunday Last rites for Mrs. J. K. Ferrington, who is survived by a total of 151 descendants, were held Monday afternoon at Holly Grove church and cemetery. A resident of Wisner, she succumbed Sunday at the age of 77. Officiating ministers were the Rev. Tom Ratcliff, Olla; the Rev. D. D. Cantrell and the Rev. W. A. Cross, Monroe, the Rev. Mr. Alford and the Rev. L. McLemore, both of Wisner. Mulhearn Funeral home directed the services. The surviving progeny of Mrs. Ferrington includes 10 sons and daughters, 51 grandchildren, 82 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were the seven sons, and honorary pallbearers were the sons-in-law and grandsons. Sons and daughters are: Lee, Johncy and Albert Ferrington, Wisner; and George Ferrington, Winnsboro; Floyd Ferrington, Monroe; Victor Ferrington, Newellton; Roy Ferrington, London, Ky.; Mrs. Theressa Ferguson and Mrs. Odie Stephens, both of Wisner and Mrs. Bernice Brown, Minden. --------------------------------------------------- The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA January 22, 1942 Submitted December 2008 by: Glenda Warner Boyd James Goodman James Goodman of Chase Succumbs at Age of 70 John Goodman of Chase community died January 9, in a Monroe sanitarium at the age of 70. Final rites, the following day, were under direction of First National Funeral home of Winnsboro. The Rev. A. C. Trapp conducted the services. The deceased, who had resided in the vicinity of Chase for a period of more than 15 years, is survived by his wife, six children, 35 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The sons and daughters are: Cleve and Mack Goodman and Mrs. Ulysees Givens, Chase; Mrs. Edward Lee, Winnsboro; W. H. Goodman, Wilsonville, Ala., and Mrs. Harold Jarrett, Mangham. Bowden Jones Succumbs at Fort Last rites for Mrs. Mary Bowden Jones, a lifelong resident of Franklin parish, were conducted Monday afternoon at Boeuf Prairie Methodist Church and cemetery, with the Rev. Jack H. Midyett, pastor of the Gilbert charge of the Methodist church, officiating. Seventy three years of age, she died Sunday , January 25, 1942 at her residence in the Fort Necessity community. Pallbearers were Milton Dailey, Lee Wooldridge, J. C. Ross, Marvin Ross , Ernest Mason, and R. F. Kincaid. Mulhearn Funeral Home had charge of arrangement. Survivors include four sons Talmage A, Jones, Monroe; Thomas Bowden Jones, Ft. Necessity; Reubin N. Jones, Ft. Necessity; Lem ( Britt ) Jones, Ft. One brother Andrew Jackson Bowden Jr., Winnsboro, La. --------------------------------- The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA January 22, 1942 Submitted December 2008 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Millard McCarta Body of Young Man Killed in California Being Returned Here Millard McCarta, 27-year-old Winnsboro man who left here more than two months ago to seek work in a West coast plant turning out defense orders, was killed Tuesday in an accident at Vallejo, Calif., according to information received by relatives. Details of the accident were not available, but he was reported to have been involved in the fatal mishap only a few minutes before he was to have left work for the day. The body is being returned here,and interment will be made in Lone Cedar cemetery, under direction of Mulhearn Funeral home. Mercer Mrs. M. M. Mercer Dies Last Thursday Mrs. Margaret M. Mercer, 94, died last Thursday at the home of Mrs. William Frey, a daughter, at Mangham. Another daughter, Mrs, Alfred Jones, is a resident of Baskin. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Lone Cherry church, interment being made in the cemetery there. Officiating ministers were the Rev. Hooks of Rayville and the Rev. Mr. Kitchenham of Columbia. Serving as pallbearers were six grandsons of the deceased, Jesse and Henry Mercer, Dee Orr, Floyd and Edward Jones and Clifton Frey. Two sons, William Orr and John Mercer, both of Mangham, also survive. Pennebaker Rites Held at Delhi For C. A. Pennebaker Funeral services for Charles A. Pennebaker, former Delhi resident and well-known in Franklin parish, who died January 12 at Pinwell, Tex., near Odessa, were held at the Delhi Baptist church, January 14, at 3 p.m. Interment was in the Masonic cemetery there. The body arrived Tuesday and was taken to the home of a sister, Mrs. Rosa P. O'Brien, in Franklin parish. Funeral arrangements were under direction of Mulhearn Funeral home of Winnsboro. Active pallbearers were Roy Synder, Bloice Loftin, Clyde Taylor, Glen Newcomer, Solan Smith, Melvin Stout, John Robinson and George Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers were all friends of the family. The Rev. Tom Ratcliff was officiating clergyman at services conducted at Holly Grove church and cemetery, with First National Funeral home in charge. Serving as pallbearers were Otis Cox, Butler Middleton, Otis Wright, Gilbert Middleton, Sam Gilmore and Gayo Gilmore. Robert Edward Weeks Well-Known Minister Dies at Crowville Wednesday Morning A pioneer minister of Franklin parish, the Rev. Robert Edward Weeks succumbed after a short illness Wednseday morning at his home in Crowville. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at Crowville Baptist church, with the Rev. C. S. Wooten, pastor, officiating, and burial was in the Crowville Masonic cemetery. The deceased was 74 years of age. Pallbearers were R. E. Wroten, Ernest Stroud, Ike Ward, George Collier, Lee McDuffie, Kelley Cupit. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Bertha Martin, Mrs. Jennie Stephenson, Mrs. Woodie Ezell, all of Crowville, and Mrs. Nellie Mckay, Stanton, Miss., and a son, J. C. Weeks, Crowville. The Rev. Mr. Weeks was widely known and esteemed throughout the parish. The Rev. C. G. Polk officiated. Interment was in Ogden cemetery, under direction of First National Funeral home. Pallbearers were Henry Browder, Lonnie Polk, Guy Polk, Roddy Renfrow, Earl Polk and J. B. McKaskle. Survivors include five sons and three daughters: Graham White, Mrs. Jessie Barfield and Mrs. Sam McClelland, all of Winnsboro; Jarbis White, Ft.
