Applewhite Applewhite Rites Held Here Tuesday Parish Health Head Dies Early Monday A throng assembled here Tuesday afternoon to pay respects to the memory of Dr. Rufus E. Applewhite, a leading resident of Franklin parish, who succumbed about 4 a.m. Monday to a heart attack with which he was stricken shortly before midnight. Funeral services were conducted at the Winnsboro First Methodist church, with the Rev. O. L. Tucker, pastor, and the Rev. C. B. Hall, pastor of the First Baptist church here, officiating. Burial was made in the "New" Winnsboro cemetery. The church auditorium was filled to capacity, and floral pieces, evidences of the esteem in which Dr. Applewhite had been held by his fellow-citizens, were in abundance. Services at the grave were carried out, with assistance of the ministers, by a detail of members of Diamond-Hawthorne American Legion post, which had maintained a military guard of honor at the chapel of First National Funeral home, where the body lay in state Monday night and Tuesday until moved to the church. A vested mixed choir of high school students sang selected hymns, and the Rev.
