Sanders ******************************** ******************************** The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA September 9, 1943 Submitted May 2009 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Prominent Parish Planter Succumbs Last rites were held Monday afternoon, from the family residence at Ft. Necessity, for William Samuel Buie, 48, who succumbed to a heart attack Sunday morning. A member of one of Franklin's pioneer and leading families, Mr. Buie was active in the operation of large plantation and mercantile interests. He was stricken Saturday. Religious services were conducted by the Rev. F. C. Collins, the Rev. J. H. Midyette and the Rev. W. R. Wendt. Interment, with military rites accorded by members of Diamond-Hawthorne American Legion post, was in Buie cemetery. Pallbearers were C. J. Grayson, Paul Turner, Herman Wiggers, Alex Welbrink, John L. Dailey, Lee Wooldridge, Rob Simon and Milton Dailey. First National Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. A veteran of the first World war, Mr. Buie is survived by his wife; a son and daughter, Charles William and Harriet Ellen, of Ft. Necessity; seven sisters and three brothers, Mrs. J. E. McClanahan of Columbia, Mrs. T. S. Price of Ruston, Mrs. W. H. Blanks of Columbia, Mrs. L. B. Breed of Ruston, Miss Georgia Buie of Columbia, Miss Fannie Buie of San Francisco, Calif., Mrs. J. R. Downes of Houston, Texas, Lieutenant Colonel Neil D. Buie of Camp Stewart, Ga., Henry A. Buie of Ft. Necessity and J. C. Buie of Winnsboro. ----------------------------------------------------- The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA September 16, 1943 Submitted May 2009 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Funeral Rites Held For Mrs. Carpenter Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Anderson Carpenter, 41, who died Saturday afternoon at the home of a sister, Mrs. Shelby Morse, here after a long illness, were held Sunday at 3:30 p.m., at the Winnsboro Methodist church. The Rev. O. L. Tucker officiating, assisted by the Rev. C. S. Wroten, and burial, under the direction of the First National Funeral home of Winnsboro, was in the old Winnsboro cemetery. Pallbearers were R. C. Davis, Willie D. Lofton, W. C. Whitten, N. L. Moore, W. B. Glover and H. L. Hill. Mrs. Carpenter is survived by two sons, James E. Carpenter, with the naval air corps at Troy, N. Y., and Joe Martin Carpenter, with the army air corps in England; a brother, Jesse Anderson, Tallulah; and two sisters, besides Mrs. Morse, Mrs. J. A. Lewis, Chase, and Mrs. Clarence Moore, Winnsboro; and her parents Mr. and Mrs. J. A. W. A. Carroll officiating, for James Doyle Ensminger, 51. Interment was made in the Holly Grove cemetery under the direction of First National Funeral home. Mr. Ensminger died at the home of Mrs. W. A. Tucker, following a short illness. He is survived by one sister, Miss Kate Ensminger, Wisner, three nieces and one nephew. Pallbearers were J. A. Spann, R. E. Spann, E. O. Cannon, Carl Shipp, John F. Farley, W. S. Thaxton, C. B. Webb and C. H. Religious services were held in the Coax church near Baskin, Wednesday afternoon, and interment, directed by the Mulhearn Funeral home of Winnsboro, was made in the Masonic cemetery near Crowville, the Rev. Polk officiated at the funeral. Mr. Ezell leaves the following daughters and sons, Mrs. Daughdrill, Mrs. Minnie Seine, Akron, Ohio; Mrs. Arizona Erskin, Winnsboro; Mrs. Elaine Lambert, Winnsboro; Willie Ezell, Amarillo, Tex.; Lee Lambert, Franklinton, and Chester Lambert, Richton, MIss. ------------------------------------------------- The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA September 23,1943 Submitted June 2009 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Final Rites Are Held for Thos. A. Grayson Last rites were held Monday afternoon at Holly Grove church cemetery, near Wisner, for Thos. A. Grayson, 55, who succumbed early Monday in a Monroe hospital to an illness of long duration. The Rev. L. McLemore, the Rev. Mr. Carroll and the Rev. Keyes officiated at the services and pallbearers were Allen T?hill, Ed Stephens, Tull McK?, Lee Trahan, Son Hoggatt and Spencer Roberts. Mulhearn Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Grayson is survived by wife: three daughters, Misses ?sie, Dorothy and Norman Grayson; three sons, Corporal Malcolm Grayson of the army of the United States, Carlton and Charles Grayson, Wisner. James B. McLaughlin, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. McLaughlin of Gilbert, was killed somewhere in the south Pacific July 20. He is survived by his parents, an eight year-old daughter, Elizabeth Anne, eight brothers and sisters: Harvey McLaughlin, Gilbert, and Shelby McLaughlin, Denham Springs, Mesdames Marcus Collins and K. P. Lofton, Winnsboro, Mesdames Elmer Barton, Gilbert, Rena Dier, Liberty, Miss., Effie Burt, Bochito, Miss., and Minerva Lofton, Morton, Miss. ----------------------------------------------------- The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA September 23, 1943 Submitted June 2009 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Mrs. Sanders Rites Are Held at Wisner Funeral services for Mrs. T. H. Sanders, resident of Wisner since 1913, were held in the Wisner Methodist church at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 19. The services were in charge of the Rev. W. H. Carroll, pastor of the church. Mrs. Sanders, whose maiden name was Maggie Jenieveve Dientback, was born in Frankfort on the Main, Germany in the year 1860. In 1869, she moved with her family to the United States, and was married to T. H. Sanders in Natchez, Miss. The Sanders family moved to Wisner in 1913, and Mr. Sanders opened a blacksmith shop. Mr. Sanders died in October, 1931, leaving his wife and one son, W. F. Sanders, who carried on the business established by his father. Mrs. Sanders was a member of the Wisner Methodist church and was regular in her attendance until her health prevented her from doing so. She is survived by her son, W. F. Sanders of Wisner; one brother-in-law, W. L. Prothroe, of Natchez, Miss., and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Bell Deitsback of Houston, Texas; three nephews, Walter Prothroe of Natchez, Henry Deitsback of Rosefield, and Willie Dietsback of Houston; and two nieces, Mrs. L. W. Duck of Houston, and Mrs. Ruth Brown of Natchez. Interment was in the Central cemetery west of Wisner. Active pallbearers were H. W. Gilbert, Segrest Roach, Carl Shipp, E. O. Cannon, A. J. Ensminger, and honorary pallbearers were Dr. V. A. Mecom, Dr. W. A. Mecom, Dr. Henry Jones, E. T. McKee, Sr., Bene Batey, John A. Farley and the friends of the family.
