Dill Dies in Delhi John Allen Dill, 73, died in a Delhi hospital early Wednesday morning after a long illness. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church of Gilbert with th Rev. Collins, pastor, officiating with the assistance of the Rev. Campbell, Baptist minister of Gilbert. Burial will follow in the Oakley cemetery under the direction of the First National Funeral home of Winnsboro. Pallbearers will be Parker Turnage, H. B. Rountree, Elvey Turner, C. B. Sherrouse, S. C. Corbin and Richard Ward. Mr. Dill is survived by his wife; two daughters, Miss Elsie Dill of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Charles Avent of Delhi; a step-son, Benjamin Bond, of Gilbert; and three sisters, Mrs. Nannie McKennon of Gilbert, Mrs. Polk Smith of Brownsville, Tex., and Mrs. W. H. Pierce of Memphis, Tenn. Donaldson Final rites for Rudolph Daniel Donaldson, popular and efficient assistant agricultural extension agent in Franklin parish for the past year and a half, were conducted Tuesday afternoon at Dry Prong, with interment in the cemetery there following funeral services from the home of his father, Dr. D. V. Donaldson. Mr. Donaldson, 29, sucumbed early Monday afternoon at an Alexandria hospital. He was stricken at his home here about two weeks ago, a cerebral hemorrhage resulting from high blood-pressure and other complications. After local treatment, he was removed under his father's care to Alexandria. A second hemorrhage Saturday, as preparations were being completed for his transfer to the Mayo clinic at Rochester, Minn., proved fatal. Several from here, where Mr. Donaldson was active, not only in the agricultural program, but in general civic affairs, attended the rites. Among the pallbearers were Roy M. Taylor, president of the Winnsboro Lions club, of which Mr. Donaldson was a member, Farm Agent, C. W. Kennedy, Thos. R. Willis and Geo. D. McKnight. Mr. Donaldson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruth Ellen Donaldson, who is librarian at the Rayville High School; four brothers, Kervin, of the U.S. army, Edward, of the U.S. navy and Cyril H. and Stafford Donaldson, Dry Prong, two sisters, Mrs. Colene Bankston of Dry Prong and Mrs. Doris Futrell of Goose Creek, Ter., and his father, who is coroner of Grant Parish. ------------------------------------------------ The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA November 11, 1943 Submitted July 2009 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Mrs. Kittie Fletcher Fletcher Rites Held at Coax Religious services were conducted at the Coax church Monday afternoon for Mrs. Kittie Fletcher, 71, who died at her home near Baskin Friday. Interment was made in the Coax cemetery under the direction of First National Funeral home. Mrs. Fletcher had been ill a long time. She is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Mabel Jackson and Mrs. Myra Massey of Baskin, and Mrs. Irma Burns of Winnsboro; two sons, Stanley and D. Mrs. Foy died at her home in Gilbert Saturday following a long illness. She is survived by her husband, P. N. Interment was made in the Coax cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral home. Mrs. Halley died at the home of her son, A. C. Halley, near Columbia Thursday morning following a long illness. She is survived by three children; Averett Halley of Columbia; Van Halley, Monroe, and Mrs. J. R. Hammett, Age 13, Dies Here Ethel Rowena Hammett, 13-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Hammett, died Wednesday morning in a Winnsboro hospital after a short illness. Funeral arrangements, being handled by the First National Funeral home of Winnsboro, had not been completed Wednesday night but services will be held at the Sardis Baptist church and burial will take place in the new Winnsboro cemetery. The child is survived by her parents; three brothers, Lt. L. Roy Hammett of the U.S. army, W. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church in Winnsboro, the Rev. A. C. Trapp and the Rev. C. B. Hall officiating, Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Interment was made in the new Winnsboro cemetery under the direction of the Mulhearn Funeral home. Mr. Harris was employed by a Winnsboro grocery store. He was a member of the Masonic lodge and the First Baptist church. He leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Harris of Winnsboro; three brothers; Jerry Martin Harris and T. L. Miller Dies Near Jigger Funeral services were conducted at the Ogden cemetery Tuesday, Oct. 26, for Daniel Webster Miller, 50, the Revs. C. S. Wroten and Thomas Ratcliff officiating. Interment was made in the Ogden cemetery under the direction of the First National Funeral home. Mr. Miller, a veteran of the first World war, died at his home near Jigger Monday, October 25, following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Marie (sic) Murre Miller of Natchez, three sisters, Mrs. Cordelia Wright, Jigger, Mrs. Tellie Richardson, East St. Louis, Ill., Mrs. Lena Ogden, Ferriday, and two brothers; Lloyd Miller, New Orleans, and Troy Miller, Helena, Ark. Jno. R. Campbell officiating, the afternoon of October 24, for Mrs. Lucy Stephens Robinson. Mrs. Robinson died at the home of her son, Hunter Robinson, Saturday, October 23. Interment was made in the new Winnsboro cemetery under the direction of First National Funeral home. Mrs. Robinson was born in Cedar Keys, Florida, August 14, 1863. November 1883, she was married to J. Franklin Robinson and to this union nine children were born. Three of the children, Bertha, Nellie, and Mrs. Carrie Ezell, preceded her in death. The surviving six are Harvey Robinson, Newellton; William Edward Robinson and J. Hunter Robinson of Chase; Mrs. Ella R. Reemes of Winnsboro, Mrs. W. H. Goodman of Birmingham, Ala., and Mrs. Mabel Hampton of Tallulah. Mrs. Robinson is also survived by 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, two brothers, D. Stephens of Wisner and S. P. Stephens of Plant City, Fla. Stephens is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Scott Stephens, of Delhi, a brother, Purvis Stephens, Warner Robin, Ga.; and five sisters: Mrs. Iva Lee Anding, Crowville; Mrs. J. W. Dongan and Miss Ernestine Stephens, Delhi; Mrs. Harold King, New Orleans, and Miss Lila Mae Stephens, Camp Van Dorn, Miss. -------------------------------------------------- The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA November 4, 1943 Submitted July 2009 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Steve Sturdivant Dies Aboard Ship Yeoman Third Class Steve Sturdivant, eldest son of the L. E. Sturdivants, of Crossett, Ark., and grandson of the J. M. Sturdivants of Winnsboro, died October 28 presumably of a heart attack on a destroyer somewhere in the Pacific. Military services will be held some time this week in Crossett. Yeoman Sturdivant, a former resident of Winnsboro, enlisted in the naval reserve July 8, 1942. July 15 he was married to Miss Faye Ludlam of Crossett and the couple made their home in Los Angeles, Calif., until October 3, when he was replaced in the office by a WAC and went to sea on the destroyer. Yeoman Sturdivant is survived by his wife, parents, grandparents and a younger brother, Elton, who is somewhere in the south Pacific with the fleet. ------------------------------------------------------- The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA November 18, 1943 Submitted July 2009 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Mrs. Josephine Taylor Taylor Rites Held Wednesday P. M. Mrs. Josephine Taylor, 80, died Wednesday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Myrtie Ross. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 5 o'clock at the Oak Grove church with burial under the direction of the First National Funeral home of Winnsboro, in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Allen Robinson, Herbert Robinson, Si Robinson, W. C. Whitten, Edward Boyle and Frank Peoples. Besides her daughter, Mrs. Taylor is survived by two sons, Will Taylor, Bastrop, and George Taylor, Ft. Necessity; and five other daughters, Mrs. Rufus Sikes and Mrs. Emma Sikes, Ft. Necessity, Mrs. Ida Hitt and Mrs. Cicero Hitt, Winnsboro, and Mrs. Jack Parker, Trout; and 35 grandchildren and 69 great-grandchildren. -----------------------------------------------------
