Evans Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 17, for Mrs. Joe S. Evans, 68, who died Saturday in a Monroe hospital following a brief illness. She was a life-long resident of the Mixon community and a member of the Baptist church. Services were conducted at the Catron-Gay Funeral chapel with the Rev. J. O. McNair officiating, assisted by the Rev. Houston Roberts. Burial was in the Delhi Masonic cemetery. Pallbearers were N. J. Rester, George Evans, Frank Roberts, Ivy Fuller, Wilton Roberts and Clarence Jernigan. Mrs. Evans is survived by her husband, Joe S. Evans, Mixon; three sons, J. C. and L. G., Jonesville, and W. B. Evans, Monroe; two daughters, Mrs. Clarence Jernigan and Mrs. Abie Ricardo, Port Arthur, Tex.; two brothers, Claude Grider (sic Crider), Delhi, and Walter Grider (sic Crider), Monroe; four sisters, Mrs. Ed Silk of Rand, Mrs. Andy Price of Rayville, Mrs. Clarence Johnson of Baskin and Mrs. Luther Johnson of Monroe; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. ------------------------------------------------- The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA October 7, 1954 Submitted March 2009 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Horace C. Norwood Passes Away Tuesday Funeral services were held for Horace Clenton Norwood, 49 years old, of Winnsboro route three Wednesday afternoon, October 6, in the First Baptist church of Gilbert. The Rev. Jimmie Crowe, pastor of the First Baptist church of Gilbert, officiated. Interment for Mr. Norwood, who died Tuesday afternoon in a Monroe hospital, was in the Oakley cemetery near Gilbert. Mr. Norwood leaves: his wife, Mrs. Annie Segers Norwood, Winnsboro; three sons, Herman Crawford Norwood, Leo Norwood and Allen Theodore Norwood, all of Winnsboro; a daughter, Mrs. C. C. Smith of Winnsboro; his mother, Mrs. Matilda Norwood of Kilbourne; two brothers, Asa Norwood of Winnsboro and Lawrence Lee Norwood, Gilbert; and three grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------
