Willard Mixon officiating, assisted by the Rev. Ira Patterson, for Mrs. Orena Calhoun, 86. Mrs. Calhoun died late Monday at the home of her son, Milton Calhoun of Crowville. Interment was in the church cemetery. The body remained at the home of Mrs. Cora Hubert in Wisner until time for services. Surviving Mrs. Calhoun are three sons, Bud Calhoun of Monroe, Jeff Calhoun of Wisner and Milton Calhoun of Crowville; seven daughters, Mrs. Josephine Bowdin of Derry, Mrs. Ella Harvey of Ashley, Mrs. Mattie Garsee of Winnsboro, Mrs. Cora Hubert of Wisner, Mrs. Louis Truitt of Baton Rouge, Mrs. Ina Mae Robbins of Monroe and Mrs. Mary Peavy of Long Beach, Calif. -------------------------------------------------- Submitted by: Glenda Warner Boyd The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA January 5, 1956 Vol 99 No. 22 Page 8 Herbert L. Davis, Sr. Final rites were conducted at the Temple Baptist church, Winnsboro, at 2 p.m. Monday for Herbert L. Davis, Sr., 78, who died at his home here Sunday at 8:40 a.m. after an illness of two years and three months. The Rev. H. K. Stringer officiated, assisted by the Rev. Joe Silvio and the Rev. Sammy Pace. Masonic rites were conducted at the graveside in Myrtle Memorial cemetery, Winnsboro. The body lay in state at the family residence. Bridge foreman of the state highway department until his illness, Mr. Davis was a member of the Temple Baptist church and an ordained deacon of the church, as well as being a member of the Winnsboro lodge No. 245, F. and A. M., and chaplain of the lodge for a number of years. Mr. Davis leaves his wife, Mrs. H. L. Davis, Sr., Winnsboro ; six sons, Hoyt of Waterproof, Louis of Gilbert, Frank of Denver, Colo. and Herbert L., Jr., Fraim and James, all of Winnsboro; six daughters , Mrs. R.C. Pitman of Foxworth, Miss., Mrs. Clayton Wilson of Cullin, Mrs. Elmer Wilson, Mrs. Woodie Hammett, Mrs. Clyde Smith and Miss Gussie B. Davis, all of Winnsboro; two sisters, Mrs. Percy Hinson of Tylertown, Miss. and Mrs. U. S. Kines of McComb, Miss.; four brothers, N. F. Davis of Tylertown, Miss., Z. A. Davis of Bogalusa, the Rev. O. O. Davis of Columbia, Miss., Alton Davis of Magnolia, Miss; 25 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers were Floyd Brown, D. E. Ellerman, Homer Ellerman, John A. Cuney, Jesse Fain, Lannie Calhoun, Thomas Riser and Julian Laborde. Honorary pallbearers were J. P. Nelson, W. E. Ferguson, W. O. Gwin, Ed Mays, H. R. Parks, D. F. Wiggins, J. W. Byrd and Jules Turnage. Stevens Mrs. W. W. (Edna) Eckhardt Funeral services were conducted at the Mulhearn Funeral home chapel at 4 p.m. Friday for Mrs. W. W. (Edna) Eckhardt of Winnsboro, who died Thursday morning in New Orleans after a long illness. The Rev. Frank Seymore officiated. An active Eastern Star member and former secretary of the Franklin Parish chapter of the Red Cross, Mrs. Eckhardt was a charter member and secretary of the First Christian church of Winnsboro. She leaves her husband, W. W. Eckhardt of Winnsboro; a daughter Miss Mildred Louise Eckhardt of Winnsboro; a step-daughter, Mrs. James Kiper of Winnsboro; her mother, Mrs. Kate Lofton of Gilbert; six sisters, Mrs. W. Y. The Rev. R. Aulds officiated at funeral services held at 2 p.m. in the French Turn Baptist church. Mr. Johnson leaves his wife, Mrs. Altha Arnold Johnson of Crowville; two sons, Charlie and Ronnie Johnson, Crowville; two daughters, Katherine and Jeanette, Crowville; his mother, Mrs. Catherine Johnson, Crowville; three brothers, Clarence Johnson of Winnsboro, Jessie Johnson of Kilgore, Tex., and R. Q. Johnson of Pascagoula; and two half-brothers, Will and Orb Davis of Tallulah. Officiating was the Rev. Paul Brooks. Interment followed in the Pine Hill cemetery at Sicily Island. A veteran of World War I, Mr. Kiper died January 12 at his home. He leaves four brothers, S. Walter Brazell officiating and the Rev. Ira Patterson assisting, for Adam Evanda McDaniel, 77. Mr. McDaniel died at the home of a son, Lovel, in Monroe Friday night. Interment followed in the Holly Grove cemetery under the direction of Brown & Young Funeral home. Surviving Mr. McDaniel are three daughters, Mrs. Johnny Barfield of Delhi, Mrs. Virgie Burlow of Wisner and Mrs. Fred Howington of Wisner; four sons, Calvin of San Pedro, Calif., Leon of Wisner, Lovel of Monroe and Mark of Delhi; 32 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Larry Walker officiated. Mrs. Parker, who died Sunday at a local hospital, leaves her husband, Hardy Parker of Winnsboro; four sons, Hardy M. of Anaheim, Calif., Ben Earl of Houston, Tex., Carl and Wayne, both of Winnsboro; eight daughters, Miss Leora Parker of Winnsboro, Mrs. W.T. Reynolds of Houston, Tex., Mrs. J. A. Ingram, Mrs. John P. Pierce, Miss Dorothy Parker, Miss Carolyn Parker and Miss Elizabeth Ann Parker, all of Winnsboro, and Miss Sarah Parker of Monroe; two brothers, J. G. Stewart of Colfax and F. M. Stewart of Vinton: two sisters, Mrs. Burton Flowers of Winnsboro and Mrs. Basil Cooper of Crescent City, Calif; and eight grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers were D. J.
