Gowan Nolan Whitfield Jones Mrs. Dorothy Wroten ****************** The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA May 31, 1956 Submitted August 2008 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Mrs. Emma Carter Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Central Baptist church near Delhi for Mrs. Emma Carter, 87, a resident of Winnsboro and Delhi. Mrs. Carter died in a Monroe hospital Saturday after a lengthy illness. The Rev. C.S. Wroten officiated at funeral services, which were followed by interment in the Crowville Masonic cemetery. Surviving Mrs. Carter are three sons, C.W. Carter, Sr. of Monroe, Parker and J.C. Carter, both of Delhi; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Braddock of Grayson, Mrs. Ruby Ellerbe of Baton Rouge and Mrs. Lizzie Emfinger of Winnsboro; 14 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; a half brother, Jim Buck Simmons of Crew Lake; a half-sister, Mrs. Ida Shivers of Tallulah; and one sister, Mrs. Rena Turberville of Delhi. Pallbearers were A.V. Thornton, Guy McLain, Bill McKinly, Jim Bullock, Dewey Emfinger and Cecil Emfinger. ------------------------------------------------------ The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA May 31, 1956 Submitted August 2008 by: Glenda Warner Boyd V. Lewis Crum Final rites were held for V. Lewis Crum, 64, of Jigger at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jigger Apostolic church, with the Rev. Jack Jones and the Rev. Travis Cooper officiating. Mr. Crum died at his home early Sunday. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Survivors include Mr. Crum's wife, Mrs. Effie Crum; two brothers, Basheo [sic Basker] and Henry Crum, both of Ferriday; two sisters, Mrs. Decy Steigis [sic Decie Sturgis] of Natchez, Miss. and Mrs. Maggie Tullos of Pineville. Pallbearers were J. R. McMorris, Paul Orr, Albert Johns, Monroe Pippin, V. J. Ellerbe Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Central Baptist church for Crawford William Ellerbe, 30, who died Tuesday morning in Alexandria after a long illness. The Revs. T.G. Polk and Ira Patterson officiated. Surviving Mr. Ellerbe are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Ellerbe of Wisner; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Matthews of Winnsboro and Mrs. Lois Campbell of Gilbert; three brothers, Charles Fay and Donald Ellerbe, both of Vicksburg, and Roy Ellerbe of Wisner; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Thomas of Winnsboro; a niece and five nephews and several aunts and uncles. Pallbearers were Harold Sims, J.W. Fortenberry, Wesber Stephens, Virgil Dampier, George Brooks and Gordon Mitchel. Gowan, 53, brother of C.L. Gowan of Winnsboro, died suddenly Saturday in Atlanta, Ga. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at the Presbyterian church of Delhi, with the Rev. Jerry Tompkins and the Rev. Leslie Webb officiating. Mr. Gowan is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter, two sisters and 10 brothers. ------------------------------------------------------ The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA May 31, 1956 Submitted August 2008 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Nolan Whitfield Jones Nolan Whitfield Jones, one-day-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Jones of Mangham, was interred in Gwin cemetery near Mangham at 4 p.m. Wednesday. The infant died in a Monroe hospital. The Rev. Roy Joiner officiated. In addition to his parents, Nolan Whitfield is survived by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Jones of Mangham, and his maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. J.T. C.S. Wroten officiating. Interment followed in Crowville Masonic cemetery. Mrs. Wroten is survived by four sons, Clarence Edgar Wroten of Minden, Riche E., Eddie and Windell Wroten, all of Winnsboro; two daughters, Mrs. Ada L. Smith and Mrs. Mabel Peters, both of Winnsboro; one sister, Mrs. W.R. Rainwater of Lucein, Miss. Serving as pallbearers were Vinous Pierce, Lee Fulford, J.L. Eldridge, Vester Busby, D.A.
