Rodgers ************************************************************ The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA September 13, 1956 Submitted October 2008 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Gilbert Armstrong Crooks Gilbert Armstrong Crooks, aged 85 years, a resident of Gilbert, died at his home Monday after a lengthy illness. Mr. Crooks was a member of Mount Herman Baptist church in Walters. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Bayou Macon Baptist church, with the Rev. J. D. Walters officiating, assisted by the Revs. Hoke Dupree, Boyett and Warren. Interment was in the Chase cemetery. Survivors of Mr. Crooks include four daughters, Mrs. Z.A. Brady of Gilbert, Mrs. W. H. Tam of Urania, Mrs. Charles Hemphill of Mansfield and Mrs. A. C. Liles of Winnsboro; two sons, Mitchell Crooks of Roxie and Grover Crooks of Gilbert; one sister, Mrs. Clara Sanson of DeVille; 30 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Earl Swazey, J. W. Simons, Willie Priest, Carl Lambert, Harvey Shivors, Jim Ashborn, E. M. Stroud and Sherman McMurry. -------------------------------------------------------- The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA September 27, 1956 Submitted June 2008 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Son Of Franklin Resident Killed Instantly Today Noble W. McCarty, son of George McCarty of route three, Winsnboro, was instantly killed in an automobile accident this morning about 3:15 near Bastrop. The 26-year-old man was an employee of the Bastrop paper mill, according to early reports. Sheriff E.L. Hinton of Morehouse parish told The Sun this morning, "It looked like he was headed toward Bastrop. Just north of the Morehouse-Ouachita parish line, he evidently lost control of his car. The car turned over several times, throwing McCarty clear." The young man died instantly of a broken neck and crushed chest. His body is being brought back to Young Funeral home of Winnsboro this morning. His automobile, a 1952 Oldsmobile, burned after the accident. Funeral services were held in Huffman cemetery near Manifest Saturday. Survivors include his wife, Rosie Morris; four sons, J.R., in army in Missouri, Wilburn of Martina, Billie of California, also serving in army, and Jackie of Rhinehart; four brothers, Jim Morris, Winnsboro, Wince Morris and Robert Morris, both of Jonesville, and Bill Morris of Rhinehart; a sister, Mrs. Julia West of Oak Grove; one grandchild and several nieces and nephews. ------------------------------------------------------- The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA September 13, 1956 Submitted May 2009 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Mrs. Ella B. Rodgers News has been received of the death of Mrs. Ella B. Rodgers, 71, resident of Sicily Island, who died while visiting a daughter in Evansville, Ind. Funeral services will be held at Pine Hill Baptist church Friday, September 14, at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Ernest Hooter officiating, assisted by the Rev. Paul Brooks. Interment will be in Pine Hill cemetery near Sicily Island. Mrs. Rodger's body will arrive at 6:30 a.m. Friday in Monroe and will be transferred to the Frist National Funeral home in Winnsboro where she will lie in state until 2:15p.m. Survivors are: three sons, Enoch Rodger and Tommie Lee Rodgers, both of Sicily Island, and Dewey Rodgers of Winnsboro; two daughters, Mrs. Alice Leake of Wisner and Mrs. Lana B. Thompson, of Evansville, Ind., three brothers, Tucker Beatty of Woodville, Miss., Pearly Beatty of New Orleans and Idler Beatty of Laurel, Miss.; two sisters, Mrs. Nancy McGraw and Mrs. Rose Lee Owens of Woodville; 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be Cecil Cox, Ray Barron, B. K. Miller, Ezzie Smith, J. B. Weston, Buddie McCarty, Ras Smith and Perry Stubbs. ----------------------------------------------------
