Young ********************************** The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA March 5, 1959 Submitted December 2008 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Sidney Blaney Young Sidney Blaney, 12-year-old cancer victim, died at Winnsboro sanitarium Monday afternoon. The boys' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Blaney of Harrisonburg, had brought him here after he had been discharged as incurable by a Shreveport hospital. They were in desperate circumstances during Sidney's final days, having exhausted their resourses in seeking a cure for Sidney, according to reports. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Harrisonburg Baptist church. The Revs. Leslie Keys and F. P. Corey officiating. Burial was in Pine Hill cemetery. Survivors are his parents, one brother, Ernest, and a sister, Lavonna, and his grandfather, W. S. Blaney, all of Harrisonburg. E. Givens Last rites for Mrs. O. E. Givens, who died at the age of 64 Thursday in a Shreveport hospital, were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Coax Baptist church. The Revs. Wilson Rawles and Ray Cargle officiated. Mrs. Givens is survived by her husband, Oscar E. Givens, Haughton; two sons, W. E. Ferguson, Ferriday, and Luther Ferguson, Winnsboro; four daughters, Mrs. H. W. McClelland, Mrs. M. O. Stone, Mrs. George C. Thomas and Miss Edna Ferguson, all of Shreveport; six step-daughters, Mrs. Judith Jones, Mrs. J. C. Robert and Mrs. Hettie Colter, all of Las Vegas, Nev., Mrs. Elsie Beer, Winnsboro, Mrs. G. L. Colter and Mrs. Elsie Arnette both of Hope, Ark.; three brothers, Jessie Whitney, Bakersfield, Calif., Archie and Edward Whitney, both of Winnsboro; two sisters, Mrs. May Cook and Mrs. Alice McClelland, both of Winnsboro; a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were George Thomas, Weldon Wilkerson, Ed Ferguson, James Ray Whitney, J. B. Mr. Jones, a World War 1 veteran died Sunday March 29, 1959 in Winnsboro Sanitarium, Winnsboro , La. Last rites will be at 2pm from the Mulhearn Funeral Chapel with the Rev. A. W. Coody officiating. Interment will be in the White Swan Cemetery at Fort Necessity. A military service will be held at the graveside. Surviving are his brother ,Lem Jones, Fort Necessity; two sisters, Miss. Betty Jones, Fort Necessity; and Mrs. Fannie Austin, Monroe. ********************************** The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA March 5, 1959 Submitted December 2008 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Zack Michael Martin Two-month-old Zack Michael Martin died of asphyxiation while sleeping early Tuesday morning. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Martin, Minden, who were visitng the baby's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Stinson of Gilbert when the tradegy occurred. Zack Martin, born December 30 at Rogers clinic, is also survived by a brother, J. A. Martin, Jr., his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Zack Martin, Minden, and a number of aunts and uncles. Funeral services for the infant were conducted Wednesday at Liberty Baptist church, Farmerville. Vetsch Walter C. Vetsch of New Orleans died at the age of 70 Thursday in New Orleans. Funeral services for Mr. Vetsch were held at Boeuf Prairie Methodist church at 2 p.m. Sunday, and intement followed in Boeuf Prairie cemetery. Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars post No. 3155, Winnsboro, were pallbearers. Survivors are Mr. Vetsch's wife, Mrs. Edith Vetsch, New Orleans; a son, Walter Vetsch, New Orleans; a sister, Mrs. Charlie Vining, Oak Grove; and two brothers, George Vetsch, Shreveport, and A. C. Young Funeral services for Thomas E. Young, father of Lawrence Young of Wisner, were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Rayville First Methodist church. The Rev. W. D. Boddie, Rayville, officiated. A retired farmer of Rayville, Mr. Young was 89 years old, having been born September 12, 1869 at St. Helena parish. He was a member of the Methodist church. Other survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Bertha White, Oak Ridge, Mrs. H. H. Terry, Rayville, and Mrs. I.I., Lohn, Little Rock, Ark.; another son, Reuben Erwin, Jonesville; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Sidney Terry, Shelton Young, Herschel Terry, Herbert Terry, Richard Terry and Ellis Erwin.
