T. T. Edwards officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr. Crum, who died early Tuesday in a Winnsboro clinic, leaves his wife, Mrs. Eula Faye Crum of Extension; a daughter, Susan Crum; nine brothers, Edgar, J. C., Ray, S. L., Tommy, Earl, Nolan and Huey Crum, all of Fort Necessity, and Lonnie Crum, Wisner. Pallbearers were Freeman Wilson, Billy Sanders, Charlie Winters, Joe Hatton, Carey Crain and Cecil Crain. ******************** The Franklin Sun February 25, 1960 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Sherry Lynn Day Sherry Lynn Day, who would have been one year old on March 27, died at 1 p. m. February 23 in a local clinic. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Day of Winnsboro. Funeral services for Sherry Lynn took place at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Central Baptist church, with the Rev. Joseph Silvio officiating. Interment was in Central cemetery near Wisner. Survivors in addition to her parents, are paternal grandparents, Elmo Day of Michigan, Mrs. Jessie Day of Wisner; maternal grandparents, Stanley J. Thornhill, Wisner, and Mrs. Opal Thornhill; and a number of aunts and uncles. ************ The Franklin Sun February 11, 1960 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease William Del Rio William Del Rio, 73 year old residernt of Wisner, died suddenly Thursday at his home. Funeral services for him took place at the Assembly of God church, Wisner at 3 p.m. Friday. The Revs. Robert Cameron, A. W. Coody and Carlton Vance officiated. Interment in Central cemetery followed services. Retired, Mr. Del Rio was born June 15 at Natchitoches. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. William Del Rio, Wisner; five daughters, Mrs. Ann Todora and Mrs. W. T. Ferguson Funeral services for Wilburn Edward Ferguson, 47 year old resident of Ferriday, were held at Coax Baptist church near Winnsboro at 2:30 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Doss Tipton officiated. Ill several years before ;his death, Mr. Ferguson was employed in the maintenance department of International Paper company, Natchez, Miss. He was born October 20, 1912 at Winnsboro, and was a member of Sycamore Baptist church of Ferriday. He died February 20 at Natchez General hospital. Burial was in Coax Cemetery. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Emma Ferguson, Ferriday; a son, Steve Ferguson, star route B, Vidalia; three daughters, Mrs. Clara Seymour, Ferriday, Mrs. Mary Cockerham, Vidalia, and Mrs. Elsie Hardy, Natchez, Miss.; eight grandchildren; a brother, Luther Ferguson, Winnsboro; four sisters, Mrs. Odell Ferguson, Baskin, Mrs. Odessa McClelland, Mrs. Orell Thomas and Miss Ann Ferguson, all of Shreveport; six half sisters and several nieces and nephews. Ross and Herman McMurray. ****************** The Franklin Sun February 18, 1960 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Walter Gordon Hamacher Winnsboro's Assistant Postmaster Walter Gordon Hamacher died suddenly about 1:45 Wednesday afternoon at his home. He had been on the staff of the local post office since 1923, except for a brief period from 1943 to 1945 when he served as rural mail carrier at Springhill. Mr. Hamacher came to the post office when it was a third class office as clerk. In 1942 he was made assistant postmaster and after his return here from Springhill was again made assistant postmaster in June 1956, the position he has held since that time. On the last day of his life he had worked into his noon hour, from 1 to 2. He suffered a heart attack just before time to return to the office. "He will be hard to replace," Postmaster Roy M. Taylor said today. "He was one of that rare specimen who take great pride in their work." Born May 15, 1903 at Katis, Ky., Mr. Hamacher had been living here about 37 years. He was a member of Temple Baptist church and the National Association of Postal Supervisors. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lola S. Hamacher, Winnsboro; a son, William Walter Hamacher, McCord Air Force base, Tacoma, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Leake, Jasper, Ala., Mrs. Beverly Guillot, Jigger and Miss Sandra Hamacher, Winnsboro; his mother, Mrs. Neoma B. Hamacher, Winnsboro; four sisters, Mrs. Pauline Broadway, Winnsboro, Mrs. Bertha Humble, Monroe, Mrs. C. V. Miller, Quitman, Miss., and Mrs. J. H. Haworth, Skene, Miss.; two brothers, Ralph Hamacher, Monroe, and W. V. Hamacher, Jr., Natchez, Miss., and two grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are incomplete, pending arrival of his son. Services will take place, however, in first National Funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Joe Mongle officiating, assisted by the Rev. Clarence Young. The body is lying in state in the chapel. The infant was stillborn at birth February 7 at Rogers clinic. Survivors in addition to the parents, are two sisters, Deborah Morgan and Kathy Johnson; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Morgan, Winnsboro; paternal grandparents and a number of aunts and uncles. ************ The Franklin Sun February 11, 1960 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Mrs. Ethel Hart Jones After a lingthy illness, Mrs. Ethel Hart Jones died Tuesday morning in a Monroe hospital. Mrs. Jones a resident of both Winnsboro and Monroe, was born September 12, 1902 in Alabama. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. John Wroten, Shreveport, Mrs. Bettye Dye, Monroe, and Mrs. Sam Lobrano, Winnsboro and eight grandchildren. Final rites for Mrs. Jones took place at First Presbyterian church, Winnsboro, Wednesday, with the Rev. Finley Patton officiating. Interment followed in new Winnsboro cemetery. Pallbearers were C. R. Adams, Jr., E. E. Meredith, W. E. Carpenter, J. R. Kiper, Jr., Edwin D. Walter and Howard Colbert. ************************ The Franklin Sun February 18, 1960 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Thomas S. Knight Final rites for Thomas S. Knight, farmer and carpenter and resident of Winnsboro for 71 years, were conducted at Young's Funeral chapel at 2:30 p.m. Monday. The Rev. C. S. Wroten officiated. Ninety years of age, Mr. Knight was born October 31, 1869 at Pelahatchie, Miss., and was a member of the Methodist church and Woodmen of the World. He died Sunday at Wisner. Survivors are a son, Charlie Knight, Beaumont, Tex.; a daughter, Mrs. Maude Risher, Washington, D. C.; a stepson, Claude Gordy, Winnsboro; three sisters, Mrs. Eula Mae Davis and Mrs. J. L. Kenney, both of Burknett, Tex., and Mrs. J. W. East, Grandfield, Okla; a brother, Jeff Knight, Winnsboro; and five grandchildren. Pallbearers were J. C. Killian, Otis Shivers, B. T. Spell, Clarence Clark, C. D. Graney and Eugene Barton. Long, 63 of Winnsboro died at his home at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. Funeral services were this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist church, with the Rev. H. B. McClure officiating, the Rev. T. J. Ratcliff assisted. Born February 10, 1897 at Winnfield, Mr. Long was a veteran of World War I and a member of Oak Grove Baptist church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bessie Long, Winnsboro; two daughters, Mrs. Billy Givens, Winnsboro, and Mrs. Ed Stokes, Farmerville; a grandchild; his mother, Mrs. J. W. Dawson, Monroe; two sisters, Mrs. Floyd Whatley and Mrs. Etoile Erskin both of Monroe; two brothers, Jimmie Dawson, Baton Rouge, and Murphy Dawson, Winnfield. Lowry died Wednesday after a long illness. She was 87 years old. A native of Franklin Parish, Mrs. Lowry and her late husband, Tom Lowry, opened the first funeral home, Lowry Funeral Home in Winnsboro in 1916. She continued to operate the funeral home after the death of her husband, but sold out some years ago. Funeral services for Mrs. Lowry will be held today at 3:30 p.m. in Young's Funeral Home chapel here. The Rev. Clarence Young, assisted by the Revs. W. H. Bengtson and Finley Patton, will officiate. Mrs. Lowry, affectionately known by many as "Aunt Kate" or "Miss Kate" leaves three daughters, Mrs. J. L. Langford, Montgomery, Ala., Mrs. N. B. McConnell, Alexandria, and Mrs. Richard Cassiday, Honolulu, Hawaii; four sons, R. C. Lowry, Centerville, Miss., Thomas H. Lowry, Austin, Tex., E. S. Lowry and Homer E. Mahoney Lawrence Victor Mahoney, brother of three Franklin parish residents, died at the age of 69 Sunday at his ;home at Waterproof. His final illness, from cancer of the lung was lengthy. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist church of Waterproof. Interment was in Oakley cemetery at Gilbert. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Augusta Thiele Mahoney, Waterproof; six daughters, Mrs. Chloe Perritt, Newellton, Mrs. Lena King, Natchez, Miss., Mrs. Dollie Porter, Shreveport, Mrs. Betty Page, Mitchell, Mrs. Omega Hatcher, Mansfield, and Mrs. Nona Kate Hale, St. Joseph; two sons, E. W. Mahoney, Monroe, and Victor Mahoney, Waterproof; three sisters Mrs. Mamie Crowell, Eros, Mrs. Minnie Parker, Wisner, and Mrs. Sallie Cain, Fort Smith, Ark., two brothers, John Mahoney and Jim Mahoney both of Gilbert; and 28 grandchildren. Surviving her are her parents; a brother, Dennie Parker; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Parker, Winnsboro; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Inez Trichel, Winnsboro; great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Fatheree; and several aunts and uncles. Funeral services were held at Young's Funeral home at 10 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. C. W. Jones officiating. Pierce A sudden illness claimed the life of Mrs. Anna Killingsworth Pierce, 79 year old resident of Jigger, at 11:30 a.m. at her home. A homemaker Mrs. Pierce was born October 5, 1880 at Goldonna. She had lived at Jigger for 27 years and was a member of Jigger Pentecostal church. She had been fighting a grass fire when she was stricken. Funeral services were held at Jigger Pentecostal church at 10 a.m. February 10 with the Rev. Jack Jones officiating. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery, Goldonna. Mrs. Pierce leaves six daughters, Mrs. Iva Bennett, Dallas, Tex., Miss Eva Pierce, Jigger, Mrs. Edith Juneau, Winnsboro, Mrs. Ouida Brian; Shreveport, Mrs. Medie Thompson, Grayson, and Mrs. Irrie Strickland, Sicily Island; two sons, Morgan Pierce and Archie Pierce, both of Jigger; a sister, Mrs. Janie Pierce, Goldonna; 29 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Spink Funeral services for William W. Spink, 80 year old resident of Winnsboro, were held at St. Columba Episcopal church, Winnsboro last week. The Rev. Father Wilson officiated. Interment was in Harris cemetery. Mr. Spink died January 30 at a Winnsboro hospital. Born at Augusta, Ga., he was a retired painter. His church affilliation was with the Episcopal church. Surviving Mr. Spink are two daughters, Mrs. R. P. Scruggs and Mrs. E. H. Dowdy, both of Little Rock, Ark.; a sister, Mrs. H. L. Cockerham of Gunson, Miss.; two brothers, A. C. Spink and H. L. Spink of Erie, Pa.; and four grandchildren. The Rev. L. F. LaPrairie officiated. Burial was in the Stephens family cemetery. Mr. Stephens died Saturday in a Winnsboro rest home. He would have been 91 on March 20. She is survived by her husband, Billy Turner, Lake Charles; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Rawls, Chase; two brothers, Robert Lee Rawles, Lake Charles, and H. A. Rawls, Utah; three sisters, Mrs. Carolyn Burris and Mrs. Letha Mae Herrington, both of Fort Necessity, and Mrs. Louise Carroll, Fort Worth, Tex. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.
