Knight, Sr. of Winnsboro, died at the age of 83 years at her home in Sicily Island Tuesday. A lifetime resident of Sicily Island, where she was born April 11, 1876 Mrs. Knight was a member of the Sicily Island Methodist church Her final illness was lengthy. Funeral services took place this morning at 10 a.m. with the Rev. J. W. Boyd officiating. Burial followed in Pine Hill cemetery Sicily Island. Survivors in addition to Mr. Knight, are sons C. I. Knight, Leesville, and Rufus Knight, Sicily Island; four daughters, Miss Maggie Knight, Mrs. R. U. Fairbanks, Mrs. A. L. Seal and Miss Iona Knight, all of Sicily Island; a brother, Sargeant Ballard, Herndon; and three sisters, Mrs. L. B. Chisum and Mrs. Nellie B. Boyett, 60 year old Hill Ridge community resident who died Wednesday at Delhi clinic were held at 3 p.m. today at Hill Ridge Baptist church. The Revs. Ed Weatherly and Pat Morris officiated. Interment was in Crowville Masonic cemetery. Born December 5, 1899 at Winn parish, Mr. Boyett was a farmer in his adult years. He was a member of Hill Ridge Baptist church. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Vera Boyett, Winnsboro; two sons, T-Sgt. B. Boyett, Jr., Bossier City, and Robert Boyett, Orlando, Fla.; a daughterr, Miss Peggy Boyett, Winnsboro; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Wilson, Rayville, and Mrs. Bonnie Williamson, Winnsboro, four brothers, Horace Boyett, Alexandria, Manuel Boyett, Monroe, Asa Boyett, Kansas City, Mo., and C. B. Mosby, Henderson, Tx., two granddaughters. Pallbearers were nephews, Wallace King, James Wilson, E. Dove died at the age of 79 Friday at her home one mile south of Baskin. A native of Ohio, she was a member of Coax Baptist Church. Funeral services were conducted at Coax Baptist church, with the Revs. Paul Helem and Alton Littleton officiating. Burial in Coax cemetery followed. Mrs. Dove is survived by her husband, the Rev. Hiram Dove, Winnsboro; a daughter, Mrs. E. Y. Cooper, Little Rock, Ark.; a son, Donald Ashton, Memphis, Tenn.; four step-daughters, Mrs. Inez Rainer, Rayville, Mrs. Annie Ellerbe and Mrs. Grace Jewell, both of Winnsboro, Mrs. Elsie Mercer, Rose, Tex; three step-sons, W. A. Dove, Winnsboro, and Reuben and Neal Dove, both of Urania; 33 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Pallbearers were grandsons, Alton Mercer, Clarence Sikes, Joseph Sikes, Albert Wigginton. **************** The Franklin Sun April 14, 1960 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Phil Duncan Phil Duncan who in May, 1960, would have marked his 39th anniversary of service with Franklin State Bank & Trust company, died in his sleep at his home here about 5 a.m. Friday. He was 68 years old. Cashier of the local bank, Mr. Duncan began his banking career as manager of a now discontinued Franklin State bank branch at Baskin. He is a former alderman of the town of Winnsboro, a member of First Baptist church, Winnsboro Lions club and the local Masonic lodge. Funeral services for Mr. Duncan were conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist church, with the Revs. Clarence Young and W. H. Bengtson officiating. Interment was in the new Winnsboro sanitarium. Mr. Duncan leaves his wife, Mrs. Minerva Duncan; a son, Phil Duffy Duncan, Monroe; a daughter, Mrs. Marie Perritt, Alexandria; four grandchildren; two brothers, D. H. Duncan, Baton Rouge, and T. P. Fife, Thomas Bennett and Billy Duplissey. *************** The Franklin Sun April 14, 1960 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Clyde Walters Funeral services for Clyde Walters, 41 year old Gilbert farmer, were held at Eureka Baptist Church at Gilbert at 11 a.m. today. The Rev. W. D. Grant officiated. Burial in Eureka cemetery followed. Born April 20, 1919, Mr. Walters died April 12 at Winnsboro Sanitarium. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hazel Walters; four children, Richard Lee, Kathy, Linda and Beverly; four brothers, Tom, Ray and Robert Walters, all of Gilbert, and the Rev. J. O. Walters, Newark, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Dora Temple, Winnsboro, Mrs. Arliea Robertson, Gilbert, and Mrs. Lorene Walters, West Monroe. The Rev. Kenny Norton officiated, assisted by the Rev. W. H. Bengston. A resident of Crowville for 45 years, Mr. Berry was born October 12, 1885 in Mississippi. He was a member of Crowville Methodist church. Survivors of Mr. Berry, who died Saturday at his home, are his wife, Mrs. Mollie Berry, Crowville; a daughter, Mrs. Dewey Allen, Winnsboro; a son W. T. Berry, San Jose, Calif.; and a step-son W. L. Hill, Tyler, Tex. Baskin George M. (Little Man) Baskin, prominent planter of Baskin, died Sunday at Winnsboro Sanitarium. A lifelong resident of Baskin, Mrs. Baskin was a descendant of the Baskin brothers who first settled the community in 1859. Funeral services for Mr. Baskin were conducted by the Rev. Ron Wilkins, C. M. Jenkins and J. C. McClendon at 3 p.m. Monday at Union Presbyterian church. Interment was in Union cemetery. Survivors are Mr. Baskin's wife, Mrs. George M. Baskin; a son, George Mack Baskin; Baskin; a daughter, Mrs. Dixie Jackson, Baskin, four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. W. O. McVey, 63 year old cattleman and farmer of route three, were conducted at 3 p.m. today at Emmanuel Baptist church, The Rev. Julian LaMaster officiated. Mr. McVey died at his home early wednesday. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Alma McVey; his mother, Mrs. Julia McVey, Shreveport; two brothers, W. H. McVey, Shreveport, and Fred McVey, SoSo, Miss.; and two foster daughters, Mrs. Willie Pitman and Miss Faye McVey, both of Winnsboro. Pallbearers were L. E. Golsby, Jr., George Pylant, J. N. Parker, Wardell Head, James Adrion and O. L. Todd, Friends of the family were honorary pallbearers. Burial was in Crowville cemetery. Woods Mrs. Caroline B. Woods 59, of Baskin died at 11:20 p. m. Wednesday at St. Francis hospital after a lengthy illness. Born January 23, 1901 at Baskin, Mrs. Woods had spent her lifetime in that community. She was a member of Baskin Baptist church. Survivors are her husband, Elzie Woods, Baskin; a daughtrer, Mrs. Thelma Zeagler, Winnsboro; three sons, Bobby, Elzie Jr., and James H. (Buddy) Woods, all of Baskin; her father, C. C. Brownell, Baskin; two brothers, A. H. Brownell and M. C. Brownell, both of Baskin; and six grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, April 29, at Baskin Baptist church. The Rev. J. C. McLendon, assisted by the Rev. Nelson Mitchell, will officiate. Interment is to be in Union cemeterry at Baskin under the direction of First National Funeral home. Named as pallbearers are Rufus Ober, J. C. Slade, Albert Wiggington, Willard Pippin, C. W. Looney and Harry Mock. Friends of the family will be honorary pallbearers. ******************** The Franklin Sun April 28, 1960 Submitted by Karen Sue McNease Mrs. Mary Spann Furr Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Spann Furr, who died Wednesday in a local clinic after a brief illness, are planned for 11 a.m. Friday April 29, at Central Baptist church Wisner. Born August 17, 1887 at Wisner, Mrs. Furr was a lifelong resident of that community. She was a charter member of Central Baptist Church and was active in church and community activities. Survivors are her husband, Lucian W. Furr, Wisner; three daughters, Mrs. Leon Bledsoe, Bossier City, Mrs. George Lucas, Monroe, and Mrs. Jarvis Cloy, Jonesboro; six sons, C.A. Furr, Frank Furr, both of Wisner, Lucian Furr, Jr., Bossier City, H. L. Furr and Joe Furr, both of Monroe, and Robert H. Furr, Savannah; three sisters, Mrs. R. H. Bass, Wisner, Mrs. R. E. Mabry, Columbia, and Mrs. Ella Scott, California; 20 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Conducting funeral services will be the Rev. Enon Boyette, assisted by the Rev. Tom Ratcliff. Newman Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Taylor Newman, a livetime resident of Wisner, were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Holly Grove Baptist church, The Rev. Joe Silvio officiated. Mrs. Newman born September 28, 1876 at Winnfield, died April 16 at her home after a lengthy illness. She was a member of Holly Grove Church. Survivors are: eight sons, W. W. Newman, J. D. Higdon, Monroe, Charles E. Newman, L. H. Higdon, Shreveport, W. B. Newman, and H. B. Higdon, Abbeville; a daughter, Mrs. F. Gordy Jr.; a sister, Mrs. Myrtis Sanders, Jigger; four brothers, Ervin Taylor, Delhi, Eugene Taylor, Oak Grove, Lee Taylor, Mounds, and Pody Taylor, Illinois; 29 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
