(Mollie) Berry, Crowville resident for 52 years, died Tuesday at the age of 77. A Winn parish native, Mrs. Berry was a Methodist by faith. Mrs. Berry is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Dewey Allen of Winnsboro; two sons, W. T. Berry of Gilray, Calif. and Walter Hill of Tyler, Tex; two sisters, Mrs. Shelvis Wooldride of Antlers, Okla. and Mrs. Ophelia Sisson of Winnsboro; a brother, Joe Day of Winnsboro; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Crowville Methodist church, with the Rev. Kenney Norton and the Rev. W. H. Bengtson officiating. Interment followed at Crowville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Myles McDuffie, Virgil Beall, Marshall Wright Leo Curry, Ray McDuffie and Quitman Walters. ******************* Submitted by DeWanna Lindo The Franklin Sun June 2, 1960 Miss Jennie Gilbert A native of Franklin Parish who moved to New Orleans in 1910, Miss Jennie Gilbert, died at her home Saturday after a short illness, She was 84 years old. Miss Gilbert is survived by a sister, Miss Louise Gilbert, New Orleans, Two nephews, Harry W. Gilbert, Wisner and Henry Womble, Gilbert; and four nieces, Mrs. D. K. Mayer, Mrs. Harry N. Anders, both of Winnsboro, Mrs. S. Hetherwick, Shreveport, and Mrs. Hooper Carter, New Orleans. Funeral services for Miss Gilbert were held at 10 a.m. Monday at First National Funeral home chapel, Winnsboro. Interment was in Oakley cemetery. Pallbearers were Don K. Meyer, Harry N. Anders, R. M. Hammonds, W. A. Tucker, William Sheffield and Gilbert Hetherwick. *************** The Franklin Sun June 16, 1960 Mrs. J. R. Hammons Mrs. J. R. Hammons of Crowville died Friday night at her home. She was 64 years old. Final rites took place at Crowville Methodist church at 2 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. K. D. Norton officiating. Interment in Crowville Masonic cemetery followed. Mrs. Hammons is survived by her husband J. R. Hammons; two daughters, Mrs. L. H. Hopson, Crowville, and Mrs. J. R. Coor, St. Joseph; a son S. M. Kemp, Houma; three step daughters, Mrs. Casey Jones, Mendenhall, Miss., Mrs. Mannie Maberry, Crystal Springs, Miss., and Miss Doris Hammons, Jackson, Miss.; three stepsons, B. H. Hammons, A. Hastings Final rites for Mrs. Agnes Smith Hastings, 39 year-old homemaker of Newellton, took place at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Young's Funeral chapel, Winnsboro. Interment followed in Ogden cemetery. A native of Winnsboro, where she was born November 28, 1920, Mrs. Hastings died May 29, at Newellton. She is survived by her husband, Bernard Hastings, Newellton; a daughter, Cynthia Diane Hastings, her mother, Mrs. W. H. The infant is survived by her parents; two sister, Brenda and Pam Hopson, both of Crowville, Maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Roberts, Crowville, paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Johnston, Jr. William Marshall Johnston, Jr., resident of the Crowville community since 1952, died on June 18 at the age of 39. Mr. Johnston was a partner with his brother, Edward L. Johnston, in farming and custom work in Crowville. Prior to 1952 he worked as an agronomist with the Soil Conservation service in the Shreveport area. A World War II veteran, Mr. Johnston took part in five major invasions with the 4th division of the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific. He was in the service for four years. A 1948 graduate of Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Mr. Johnston was a member of the Masonic lodge and the Baptist church of Crowville. He is survived by his wife, Matilda Delegal Johnston; three children, William Marshall, III, age five, George Edward, four, Deborah Ann 10 months old; his mother, Mrs. W. M. Johnston, Sr. of West Monroe; and a brother, Edward L. Johnston of Crowville. Funeral services were held June 20 at 10 a.m. in the Kilpatrick Funeral home chapel. The Rev. Jack Jones officiated. A member of Jigger Pentecostal church Mrs. Jones died May 28 at Rosalee Nursing home, Wisner. Mrs. Jones is survived by five nieces, Mrs. Monroe Wallace, Winnsboro, Mrs. Letha Cobb, Delhi, Mrs. Harriet Tillman and Mrs. Elizabeth Juno, both of Crowville, and Mrs. Effie Thornburg, Ponchatoula; and two nephews, Calvin Dunn, Jigger, and Tom Dunn, Crowville. Mrs. Killian was a resident of the Swampers Commuinity. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. this afternoon at the Lone Pine Baptist church. Interment was in Harris Cemetery. The Rev. Sardis Bevers officiated. The deceased is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Fred Malik of Toccoa, Ga.; two sons, Theo and Coleman Killian of Swampers; two sisters, Mrs. F. P. Sims of Winnsboro and Mrs. Mable Ford of Monroe; two brothers. L. L. Stewart of Swampers and Clyde Stewart of Monroe; seven grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Red Cassidy, Lawrence Shivers, Douglas Graney, Fay Stewart, Med Elkins and Angus Higgenbotham. **************** Submitted by DeWanna Lindo The Franklin Sun June 30, 1960 James Edward Parker An 87 year old retired farmer of Crowville, James (Jim) Edward Parker, died at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday in a local hospital. Mr. Parker's final illness was lengthy. Born August 20, 1873 at Winn Parish, he had lived at Crowville for 55 years. Funeral services will be held at Lamar Baptist church at 2 p.m. Friday, July 1. The Rev. C. S. Wroten will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Ralph Frazier. Burial is to be in Crowville Masonic cemetery under the direction of First National Funeral home. Survivors are two sons Jack Parker, Crowville, and Bruce Parker, Delhi; two daughters, Mrs. Ocie Smith, Delhi and Mrs. Dora Wroten, Crowville; three sisters, Mrs. J. P. Sills, Crowville, Mrs. L. H. Davis, Simsboro, and Mrs. Rhetta Antley, West Monroe; 15 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Nolan Smith, J. N. Rushing Mrs. Icy Elizabeth Rushing 75, died Friday at Rogers clinic. She was 75 years of age. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Magnolia Baptist church, with the Rev. LaVelle Enterkin officiating, assisted by the Rev. Ben Jordan. Burial was in Magnolia cemetery near Winnsboro. Born July 2, 1884, at Amite county, Miss., Mrs. Rushing was a member of Magnolia Baptist church. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Ruthie Jones, Rayville, and Mrs. Ruby Thames, Baskin; a son, Marion Rushing, Crowville; two brothers, Frank Chisholm, Crowville, and John Chisholm, Rayville; 17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Jimmy Hipp officiated. Born December 25, 1878, Mrs. Scaife died June 2 at Winnsboro. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Aldina S. Gates and Mrs. Roy Gianelloni, both of Baton Rouge, a son Dayton Scaife, Bossier City, and a brother F. C. Gibbs, Winnsboro. Pallbearers were Lynn Eubanks, George A. Segrest of Wisner died Tuesday morning in her home after a lengthy illness. She was 74 years of age. Mrs. Segrest, widow of the late Dr. R. L. Segrest, is survived by her daughter, Mrs. H. A. Cruce of Wisner, and her sister, Mrs. J. A. Wilsdorf of Nashville, Tenn. Funeral services were conducted at the Wisner Methodist church Wednesday, with the Rev. A. W. Coody, Paul Durbin and Richard W. Wilson officiating. Interment followed in Oakley cemetery near Gilbert. Active pallbearers were Rupert R. Scott, James A. Tucker, W. C. Knotts, W. A. Tucker, R. A. Born September 24, 1885 at Hattiesburg, Miss., Mrs. Segrest had lived at Wisner 41 years. She was a member of First Methodist church, Wisner. ***************** Submitted by DeWanna Lindo The Franklin Sun June 16, 1960 Lee Wooldridge Funeral services for Lee Wooldridge, 56 year old merchant and farmer of Fort Necessity, were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Boeuf Prairie Methodist church. The Rev. Roland Friedrich and the Rev. Lamont Rouse officiated. Born February 11, 1904 at Fort Necessity, Mr. Wooldridge was a member of Boeuf Prairie Methodist church and W.O.W. He died suddenly at his home Friday night. Mr. Wooldridge is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ollie Vining Wooldridge; five sisters, Mrs. John Lanier, Crowville, Mrs. Harry Seffens, Baskin, Mrs. O. G. Kincaid, Mrs. Marvin Ross and Mrs. Paul Turner, all of Fort Necessity; three brothers, R. W. Wooldridge and Van Wooldridge, both of Fort Necessity, and Louis Wooldridge, Winnsboro.
