J. C. McLendon officiating. Mrs. Bowers, a Baskin resident, died on August 4 in a local nursing home. Eighty-five years of age, she was born October 22, 1874 at Livingston, Ala. She was a member of Baskin Baptist church. Mrs. Bowers is survived by one brother, R. H. Leonard of Winnsboro and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Leon Mock, A. W. Boyette, Buddy Jones, Dennis Williams, Henry Earl Reagan and J. A. Walton. --------------------------------------------------- Submitted by: DeWanna Lindo The Franklin Sun August 25, 1960 Melton Brown Melton Brown, Winnsboro resident for the past seven or eight years, died August 18 in a Monroe hopital after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were conducted at First National funeral home chapel Friday, August 19. The Rev. J. A. Hawthorne officiated, assisted by the Rev. E. Keasler. Interment followed at Gwin cemetery in Mangham. Mr. Brown is survived by a sister, Mrs. Charlie Fern of Taft, Calif. two nieces, Mrs. Mabel B. Hixon and Mrs. Olie Carter, both of Mangham, and four nephews and one niece in California. Pallbearers for the services were Morris Keyes, Riley Doughty, Frank Peoples, Bob Norris, Fred Carter, Carey L. Fitzgerald, 73 year old Winnsboro resident, died last Sunday at St. Francis hospital in Monroe. Funeral services were conducted at the Mulhearn Funeral home chapel Monday afternoon at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Jimmy Shepard officiating. Interment followed in Coax cemetery. Mr. Fitzgerald is survived by his wife; his son, Aubrey of Monroe; a daughter, Mrs. Modine Rollins of Winnsboro; two sisters Mrs. Arthur Graves of Tallulah and Mrs. Eria Kilgore of Taylorville, Miss.; and eight grandchildren. Pallbearers were Reesie Walters, Raymond Walters, Cletus Walters, E.B. Walters, Ross Graves and Neal Zeagler, all nephews of Mr. Fitzgerald. A farmer, Mr. Fitzgerald was born February 22, 1887 in Union parish. **************************** Submitted by: Karen Sue McNease The Franklin Sun August 18, 1960 Cisero Lou Hitt Cisero Lou Hitt, 72 year old resident of Oak Grove, died Saturday, August 13, in his home following a sudden illness. A farmer, Mr. Hitt was a native and life long resident of Oak Grove community. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist church. Funeral services were conducted Monday, August 15, at Oak Grove Baptist church, with the Rev. Fred Keyes and H. B. McClure officiating. Interment followed in Oak Grove cemetery. Pallbearers for the services were Odell Parker, Jack Parker, Jack Muckelrath, L. T. Hitt, Johnny Duncan and Carnice Goule. Mr. Hitt is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cisero Hitt of Winnsboro; five sons, Alvin, C. B. and Marvin, all of Franklin, and Raymond and John Richard of Winnsboro; two brothers, Luicius and Blanks Hitt of Winnsboro; a half-brother, John Duncan Hitt of Winnsboro; and three grandchildren. ******************************** The Franklin Sun August 4, 1960 Mrs. Catherine Harrell Mrs. Catherine Harrell died July 31 at her home in Baskin at the age of 81. She was a member of Baskin Baptist church. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. C. McLendon and the Rev. Mrs. Lea Joiner at Lone Cedar Baptist church Tuesday, August 2, at 3 p.m. Leonard, Edward and Floyd Jones, Roger Miller, John and Grady Gray served as pallbearers. McVay, 82, of Lincoln parish, died Tuesday. Funeral services were held at Crowville Baptist church with the Rev. Pat Morris and the Rev. Lee Smith officiating. Parker, died shortly after his birth on August 21. Graveside services were conducted Monday, August 22, at Lone Cedar cemetery with the Rev. S. B. Boyette officiating. The infant is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Parker, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Parker, all of Winnsboro and several aunts and uncles. ********************* Submitted by: Karen Sue McNease The Franklin Sun August 25, 1960 Mrs. Luther Jones Funeral services were conducted at 4 p.m. Monday for Mrs. Odell Jones of 912 Hickory, Winnsboro, who died early Sunday in a New Orleans hospital after a long illness. She was 48 years old. Services took place at Temple Baptist church, Winnsboro, of which Mrs. Jones was a member. The Rev. Joe Mongle officiated. Burial was in Myrtle Memorial cemetery. Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband, Luther L. Jones, Winnsboro; three sons, Luther, Jr., Farmerville, Jerry and Jim Jones both of Winnsboro; two daughters, Mrs. Flora Kittridge, Morgan City, and Mrs. Jackie Moore, Sterlington; her mother, Mrs. Maggie Brigmon, Campti; three bothers, Jack Brigmon, Tuba City, Ariz., and Willard and Lewllyn Brigmon, both of Bastrop; a sister, Mrs. Lucille Bruce, Ferriday. Rogers Funeral services for Mrs. Katie Shannon Rogers 81, of Central community, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Gay's Funeral home chapel in Delhi. A native of Pattison, Miss., Mrs. Rogers had lived in Central community for 48 years and was a member of Harmony Baptist church. She died Friday at her home. The Rev. Wroten officiated. Burial was in Delhi Masonic cemetery. Mrs. Rogers is survived by four sons, Willie of Lake Village, Ark., Berry of Marshall, Tex., Grafton of Houston, Tex. and Leon of Monroe; 17 grandchjildren, 15 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. a sister, Mrs. Mable Mitchell, Grants Pass, Ore. Born April 2, 1883, in Yugoslavia, Mrs. Svetlecic was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church where final rites took place at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. John Mulkeen officiated at funeral services and at a rosary service Saturday evening. Mrs. Svetlecic is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Mary Velchoff, Rayville, Mrs. T.D. Wyatt, Big Springs, Tex., and Mrs. John Gudac and Mrs. Mary Kuccinic, both of Joliet, Ill.; five sons, Vinco Polancic, Arcadia, Frank Polancic, Shreveport, Nick Polancic, Rayville, Joseph Polancic, Winnsboro, and Charles Svetlecic, Winnsboro; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and a sister, Joilet, Ill. Sherrouse Mrs. Emoline Webb Sherrouse, Gilbert resident and school teacher, died August 12 at the age of 67. She was a member of the Methodist church of Gilbert. A native of Sparta, Ga., she was born there April 12, 1893. Funeral services were conducted on August 13 at the First National Funeral chapel, with the Rev. J. W. Boyd officiating, assisted by the Rev. Rouse. Mrs Sherrouse leaves her husband, Chevis Webb Sherrouse; a daughter, Mrs. W. A. Turnbough of Gilbert; a son, Chevis W. Sherrouse, Jr. of Baton Rouge; eight sisters, two brothers and four grandchildren.
