York, Sr. ****************** ****************** Submitted by: DeWanna Lindo The Franklin Sun September 22, 1960 Mrs. Jessie St. Andre A brief illness claimed the life of Mrs. Jessie St. Andre of Winnsboro early Sunday afternoon. Seventy six years old, she died at the Hodge clinic, Jonesboro. Mrs. St. Andre had lived here most of her life, but had been staying in the home of her granddaughter, Miss Jimmie Sue Hatch, at Jonesboro. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday at Mars Hill Baptist church near Montgomery, with the Rev. J. D. Wagnon of Hodge officiating. Burial was in Mars Hill cemetery. Mrs. St. Andre is survived by her granddaughter and two sisters. Mrs. May Byson and Mrs. Annie Self, both of Montgomery. -------------------------- Submitted by: Karen Sue McNease The Franklin Sun September 15, 1960 Mrs. Effie Comeaux Funeral services for Mrs. Effie Comeaux, mother of two Winnsboro residents, were held at 2;30 p.m. Saturday in Mulhearn Funeral home chapel, Winnsboro. A resident of route one, Mangham, Mrs. Comeaux was born February 14, 1883 in Richland parish. She died Friday at her home. The Rev. Jimmy Hipp officiated at funeral services. Interment was in old Winnsboro cemetery. Mrs. Comeaux is survived by three sons, John and Edward Comeaux both of Winnsboro, and Dutch Comeaux, Monroe; two daughters, Mrs. T. J. King and Mrs. Mattie Garrigus, both of Mangham; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Pallbearers were W. A. Jones, Ira Parks, Barney Cottingham, Milton Albritton, Sim Welsh and Cecil Russell. -------------------------------- Submitted by: Karen Sue McNease The Franklin Sun September 22, 1960 Infant Gulledge Funeral services for the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Gulledge, Jr., of 1104 Oak street, Winnsboro, took place at 3:30 p.m. Monday in the chapel of First National Funeral home. The Rev. C. T. Smith officiated. Interment was in Crowville Masonic cemetery. The infant died at birth Sunday in Rogers clinic. Survivors, in addition to his parents, are Mr. and Mrs. Clark Gulledge, Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Newsom, all of Crowville, grandparents. -------------------------------- Submitted by: Karen Sue McNease The Franklin Sun September 15, 1960 Mike Jenings, Sr. Mike Jenings, Sr. of Liddieville died early this morning at a local hospital. He was 95 years old. Funeral arrangements were incomplete at noon today. Mr. Jenings is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nettie Jenings; daughters, Mrs. L. O. Slaughter, Mrs. Henrietta Smith, Mrs. Charlie Horne, Mrs. Ben Johnson and Mrs. Archie Scriber; sons, Sam, Bill, Mike, Jr. and Edward all of Winnsboro. ----------------------------------- Submitted by: DeWanna Lindo The Franklin Sun September 8, 1960 Mrs. Ida Belle McGraw Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Belle McGraw, 74 year old Winnsboro resident, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Coax Baptist church. The Revs. J.W. Wright and Francis Williams officiated. Interment was in Coax cemetery. Born June 6, 1886 in Mississippi, Mrs. McGraw died September 3 at Riley Rest home. She was a member of Liberty Baptist church. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Ollie Peavy, Winnsboro; three sons, James H. McGraw, Jena, Charlie and Everett McGraw, both of Swartz; two brothers, John Hayden of Columbia and Martin Hayden of Winnsboro; a sister, Mrs. Lillie Hightower of Monroe; and 14 grandchildren. Jones. **************** Submitted by: Karen Sue McNease The Franklin Sun September 29, 1960 Henry Frank Roden Funeral services for Henry Frank Roden of Baskin were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Liberty Hill Baptist church, Bienville. The Rev. Charles Middleton officiated. Born December 3, 1871 in Bienville parish, Mr. Roden was 88 years old. A farmer, he had lived at Baskin for 36 years, having moved here in 1924 from Bienville parish. He died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at his home. Burial was in Liberty Hill cemetery at Bienville. Mr. Roden is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lucille Saunders, Ruston, and Mrs. Hazel Shoemake, Baskin; a son Vernon Roden, Winnsboro; two granddaughters and a grandson; his sister, Mrs. C. T. Forto, Austin, Tex; and a number of nephews. Pallbearers were W. H. McPhail, McHenry Jones, James Woods, Jack Bell, C. W. Loe, C. L. Butler, Louie Butler and Chapman Caldwell. ------------------------------------ Submitted by: Karen Sue McNease The Franklin Sun September 22, 1960 Moses Sahad Moses Sahad, 79 year old resident of 2206 Pine street, Winnsboro, died suddenly at his home Saturday. Funeral services for Mr. Sahad were at 4 p.m. Monday at First Baptist church, with the Revs. Clarence :Young and W. H. Bengtson officiating. Special graveside services for Mr. Sahad, a member of Winnsboro lodge No. 246, F&AM, were conducted by Masons. Burial was in Myrtle Memorial cemetery. Mr. Sahad, born December 25, 1880, is survived by his wife, Lessie Sahad, Winnsboro; two daughters, Mrs. Nick Lawson and Mrs. Fred Alexander, both of Winnsboro; a son, Cecil Sahad of Monroe; and three grandchildren. Pallbearers were O. L. Todd, J. G. Womack, Abner Box, J. M. Shipp, Charles R. Varnado and Henry Thompson. ---------------------------------- Submitted by: Karen Sue McNease The Franklin Sun September 29, 1960 Louie Abell Scott In a final illness of 10 days, congestive heart failure claimed the life of Louie Abell Scott at 12:30 Friday morning at Baptist hospital, New Orleans. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude E. Scott of Winnsboro, Mr. Scott was born May 7, 1923, at Gilbert. He graduated from Gilbert High school and completed a special course in radio technology at Port Arthur college. In 1943 he became technician at WWL in New Orleans, a position he held until his death. He was Methodist by faith. Mr. Scott had overcome several illnesses before his final one. He suffered rheumatic fever as a child, and was stricken with and crippled by polio four years ago. He had returned to work in a wheel chair. The body lay in state in New Orleans at the House of Bultman before being brought to Winnsboro for funeral services at the home of his parents. The Revs. Lee Joiner, Clarence Young and Finley Patton officiated. Interment was in Winnsboro cemetery. Survivors, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Mrs. Byrne Louise Scott; two sons, Robert L. Scott and William S. Scott; a daughter, Martha E. Scott, all of New Orleans; aunts and uncles who include T. A. Scott and Mrs. Pearl Butler of Winnsboro, and E. B. Scott of Monroe. He was also the nephew of the late R. D. Swayze, commissioner of streets and parks, Monroe, Captain L. A. Swayze and M. D. Swayze, also of Monroe. Pallbearers at the funeral, attended by friends from here, New Orleans, Jackson, Miss. and Marksville, were Ray Butler of Baton Rouge, James Kiper of Monroe, Paul Price, Walter Shelton, Jr., Shirley Evans and George Mack Scott. -------------------------------------------- Submitted by: Karen Sue McNease The Franklin Sun September 15, 1960 Jessie G. York, Sr. Final rites for Jessie G. York, Sr., 56, a lifelong resident of Sicily Island, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sicily Island Methodist church. The Rev. J. W. Boyd officiated. Mr. York died Monday night in a Houston hospital. He leaves a son, J. G. York, Jr., Pasadena, Tex.; four brothers, Zeb York, Kenner, W. S. York, Sterlington, and Thomas R. York, Georgia; two sisters, Mrs. H. M. Krause and Mrs. Julia Wales, both of Sicily Island; and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Zeb York, III, Jack McNair, Bruce Edmonds, Jr., Howard Smith, Bunk Taliaferro, H. C. Peck, W. Latham and Ellzie Turner.
