A native of Mississippi, he was the son of Mrs. Lela Andrews of Gilbert. Other survivors are; his wife, Mrs Alice Andrews of New Orleans; four brothers, Charlie Andrews of Gilbert,, Ellis and George Andrews of Bastrop, and Rosco Andrews of Vidalia; two sister, Ruby of Scoita, Calif. and Alpha of Columbia, Miss. Funeral rites were held at Central Baptist church at Wisner at 4 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Doss Tipton officiated. Pallbearers were Clarence Sanders, Dock Ferrington, FW. Burlew, Bluford Emfiner, Jimmie Ochiltree and Lonnie Guthrie. ****************************** The Franklin Sun October 6, 1960 Mrs. B. I. Berry A lengthy illness claimed the life of Mrs. B. I. (Shellie Mae) Berry at 11 p.m. Wednesday at her home here. She was 48 years old. An active member of both the First Methodist church of Winnsboro and the Winnsboro Garden club before her illness, Mrs. Berry was born November 20, 1911 at Baskin. Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Friday, October 7, at First Methodist church of Winnsboro, with the Rev. W. H. Bengtson officiating. Burial will follow in new Winnsboro cemetery. First National Funeral home is directing funeral arrangements. Mrs. Berry is survived by her husband B. I. Berry, Winnsboro attorney; her father, H. H. Reese, Baskin; three brothers, John Henry Reese, Kansas City, Mo., H. C. Reese, Baskin, and Lt. Col. Bowlin, 72, died at her home on Prairie street in Winnsboro October 4. She was a member of Church of Christ where funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, with the Rev. Jerry Lee officiating. Burial was in Ogden cemetery. Mrs. Bowlin is survived by three sons, M. L. Bowlin and Marvin Bowlin, both of Winnsboro, and Esters Bowlin, Ruston; four daughters, Mrs. Allie Mayfield, Mrs. Vera Spruill and Mrs. Viola Mosely, all of Monroe, and Mrs. Velia Saucier, Rayville; 13 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Clara Butler and Mrs. Mollie Hunt both of Brookhaven, Miss., and Mrs. Pollie Thompson, Californina. Mr. Braswell died September 30 at 12:30 p.m. near his home. A farmer, Mr. Braswell was born April 23, 1891 at Kosciusko, Miss. He had lived at Wisner for 24 years and was a member of the Assembly of God Church. The Rev. James Brown officiated at funeral services, which were followed by burial in Holly Grove cemetery. Surviving Mr. Braswell are his wife, Mrs. Lizzie E. Braswell, New Orleans; three sons, the Rev. H. A. (Son) Braswell, Austin Braswell and John E. Braswell, all of Wisner; three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Earle, Columbia, Miss., Mrs. Mamie Fussell and Mis Edith Braswell, both of Wisner; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild; and a brother, Johnnie H. Evans died at 5:20 a.m. October 8 in a local hospital. His final illness was lengthy. Mr. Evans, born November 18, 1883 at Baskin, was a member of Temple Baptist church, where funeral services took place at 2 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Joe Mongle officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park cemetery, Monroe. In addition to his parents, David Lynn is survived by three brothers, Elbert, Willie Ed and Joe Ferguson, Baskin; a sister, Kathy, Baskin; seven half aunts and a number of aunts and uncles. ****************************** The Franklin Sun October 27, 1960 Mrs. Jess Gilbert Mrs. Jess (Ella) Gilbert, widow of the late Jess Gilbert, sheriff of Franklin parish, died here Friday after a long illness. A native of Arkansas, Mrs. Gilbert would have celebrated her 86th birthday on October 24. Final rites took place in Mulhearn Funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. Sunday and were conducted by the Rev. W. H. Bengtson of First Methodist church. Interment in Oakley cemetery, Gilbert, followed. A son Daniel Gilbert, Ruston, is the sole survivor. A native of Arkansas, she lived at Liddieville and was a member of Boeuf River Baptist church. Funeral services for Mrs. Hawsey were held at Boeuf Rivier Baptist church at 2 p.m. Sunday, with the Revs. T. J. Ratcliff and Jimmy Hipp officiating. Burial was in Ogden cemetery. Born January 2, 1906 at Urania, Mrs. Hilliard was a member of Temple Baptist Church, where funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Joe Mongle, assisted by the Rev. Killian Funeral arrangements for Oscar L. Killian who died late Wednesday afternoon in a Shreveport veterans' hospital are incomplete this morning. Mr. Killian 65 died after a long illness. A lifetime resident of Winnsboro he was a carpenter by trade and a veteran of World War I. Surivors include a sister, Mrs. Nick Meyer, Winnsboro, a brother, Phillip Killian, Memphis, Tenn., and a number of nieces and nephews. funeral arrangements will be directed by Young's Funeral home of Winnsboro. Kinison 39 year old World War II veteran and Winnsboro resident were conducted at 9 a.m. Friday at the graveside in Central cemetery, Wisner. A member of Turkey Creek Baptist church, Mr. Kinison was born February 7, 1921 at Fairbanks. He was a farmer by occupation and had lived in Winnsboro for four years. The veteran died Monday at his home; the body was not discovered until thursday. The Rev. Lee Smith officiated at funeral services. Mr. Kinison is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Kathy Mitchell, Gretna; his mother, Mrs. Flora Kinison, Gilbert; three sisters, Mrs. Ollie Sproles and Mrs. Margaret Sproles, both of Gilbert, and Mrs. Ellen Sproles, Angola; two brothers, William Kinison, Dunn, and Robert Kinison, Jigger. ************************* The Franklin Sun October 20, 1960 Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Lee A lengthy illness claimed the life of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth (Big Mama) Lee at 5:10 p.m. Thursday in a local clinic. She was 91 years old. Born August 27, 1869 at Gilbert, Mrs. Lee was a member of Lone Cedar Baptist Church, where funeral services took place at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. S. B. Boyette, assisted by the Rev. W.H. Bengtson, officiated. Interment was in New Winnsboro cemetery, Winnsboro. Mrs. Lee leaves to mourn her: three daughters, Mrs. Jennie Alford, Monroe, Mrs. Hattie Gwin, Winnsboro, and Mrs. Mary Ellen Lambert, Dilly, Tex.; a son, S. E. Lowentritt Winnsboro was shocked by the unexpected death of a widely known resident, Louis L. Lowentritt, Sr., in Barnes hospital in St. Louis, Mo. Monday night. Mr. Lowentritt ill for some time was in St. Louis for surgery. A lifetime resident of Winnsboro, Mr. Lowentritt was a graduate of Tulane and Harvard universities, a partner in one of Winnsboro's oldest business establishments and a prominent planter. He was an active member of both the Winnsboro Lions Club and the Winnsboro Chamber of Commerce, and worked closely with the parish agriculture extension staff and in other agricultural activities. He was a member of B'Nai Israel Temple in Monroe. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. today at Thorpe-Sondheimer Funeral Home in New Orleans. Mr. Lowentritt is survived by his wife, the former Miss Dorothy Phillips; a daughter, Mrs. Ann Weiss, St. Paul, Minn.; two sons, Louis, Jr. and Phil; and a brother, Leo. ************************* The Franklin Sun October 1960 John Webster McDaniel John Webster McDaniel died at the age of 86 on October 24 at Shreveport. A native of Thornton, Tex., Mrs. McLelland was a member of the Methodist church. She was 82 years old, when she died Thursday at 8:45 p.m. at her home after a lengthy illness. Burial was in New Winnsboro cemetery. A retired oil field worker, Mr. Muckelrath was 70 years old when he died October 26 at Rogers clinic. He was born January 15, 1890 at Laurel, Miss., and was a member of the Masonic lodge. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Eva Mae Muckelrath, Winnsboro; two daughters, Mrs. Wade Sisk, Winnsboro, and Mrs. J. Nelson, died at 4:15 a.m. today in a Bernice hospital. Ninety three years old he was a resident of Lillie. The body has been taken to Pratt Funeral home in Junction City, Ark. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the First Methodist church. Burial is to follow in Union Grove cemetery at Lillie. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. B. C. Easterling, Polkville, Miss., and Mrs. O. G. Smith, Gilbert; six sons, Tommie, Merlie and Cufus Phillips, all of Polkville, Miss., Wallace Phillips of Mangham, Huey Phillips of Winnsboro and Lilo Phillips of Monroe; 34 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. A farmer born September 17, 1900 in Mississippi, Mr. Reeves was 60 years old. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Clara Reeves, Winnsboro; a daughter, Mrs. Percola Crick, Lake Charles; five sons, Ervin Reeves, Denham Springs, Elton Reeves, Winnsboro, A. R. Reeves, Monroe, Victor C. He was a native of Ivesdale, Ill., having been born there October 21, 1888. Funeral services were held at First National Funeral home chapel, Monday at 4 p.m. The Rev. C. W. Jones, Sr. officiated, assisted by the Rev. Sidney Crawford. Interment in Coax cemetery near Baskin followed. A farmer, he was a native of Alabama, where he was born August 11, 1896, and lived at route one, Baskin. Funeral services were held at Bethel Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. R.E. Houston officiated. Interment was in Greer cemetery near Rayville. Mr. Walters leaves his wife, Mrs. Ethel Walters, Baskin; three sons, F. M. Walters, Watsonville, Calif., W. A. Walters, Monroe, and I. R. Nixon, Glendale, Calif. two daughters, Mrs. Fred Norman, Rayville, and Mrs. B. F. Wicker, Jr., Baton Rouge; five sisters. Williams, Walter Strickland, 47 year old resident of route one, Sicily Island, was interred in Chase cemetery at Chase Friday afternoon following services at Jigger Pentcostal church. The Rev. Mr. Strickland, a farmer, leaves his wife, Mrs. Arrie Strickland; Sicily Island; three sons, Billy, James and Larry Strickland, three daughters, Lois and Bobby Strickland, and Emma Jean Bamburg of Newellton. He was a member of Baskin Baptist church and Winnsboro lodge No. 246, F&AM. The Rev. C. W. Jones officiated at funeral services. Masonic services were conducted at the graveside in Gwin cemetery. Mr. Williams leaves his wife, Mrs. Ruth Morris Williams; two daughters, Mrs. Minnie Wilson, West Monroe, and Mrs. Opal Walker, Citronelle, Ala.; three sons, Dennis Jr., Buras; Chester Williams, West Monroe, and Jerry Wayne Williams, Baskin; his mother, Mrs. Lina Williams, Start; and seven grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Moore, Start, Mrs. Stella Worley, Rayville, adn Mrs. Dora Powell, Pueblo, Col. Williams Final rites for Marion Clarence Williams, killed in a head on collision near Jena last Wednesday, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Boeuf River Baptist church. The Rev. Joe Silvio officiated. A farmer Mr. Williams was 48 years old and a resident of Liddieville. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida E. Williams; two sons, Lloyd and Earl Williams; two daughters, Mrs. Arlene Dilly and Mrs. Mamie Lee Parrott; and two sisters, Mrs. Meadie Miller and Mrs. Mary Neal.
