Davies From: February 7, 1963 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Husband Of The Former Agnes Long Is Buried Here Funeral services for A. G. Corbitt, 65, former mayor of Gilbert, La., for 20 years, were conducted in a Winnsboro funeral home Friday, February 1, with burial following at 4 p.m. that day. Mr. Corbitt passed away January 29. The Rev. J. W. Boyd and Rev. Clarence Young officiated. Mr. Corbitt was a native of the Atlanta community, but had resided at Gilbert since 1920, where he was mayor until 1958. He was a member of Dan Gilbert Masonic Lodge No. 405 F. & AM and partner in the Scott-Corbitt Drug Store in Winnsboro. He also had farming and stock raising interests in Franklin Parish. Surviving are his widow, the former Agnes Long, Winnfield native, of Gilbert; his mother, Mrs. Virginia Corbitt of Houston, Texas; four sisters, Mrs. O. H. Bruhn, Mrs. Tom Brown, Miss Ouida Corbitt and Mrs. Agnes Jenkins, all of Houston, Texas. Mrs. Corbitt is a sister of Mrs. Zelma Frazier and Mrs. G. P. Long of Winnfield. A host of out of town friends and relatives attended the last rites in Winnfield Friday. ****************************************************** The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA February 7, 1963 Submitted March 2006 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Jo Ellen Garcin Miss Jo Ellen Garcin, 11-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene D. Garcin of Shreveport, died in a Shreveport sanitarium Monday following a long illness. Funeral services were held in Boeuf River Baptist church, with the Rev. Elmer Smith, pastor of the Fellowship Baptist church officiating. Interment was in Ogden cemetery. Miss Garcin is survived by her parents; her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Verlie Polk, Shreveport; her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Garcin, Sr., Winnsboro; five aunts and two uncles. ********************************* The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA February 21, 1963 Submitted by: Glenda Warner Boyd Funeral services for A. J. Hawsey of route two, Winnsboro, were conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Boeuf River Baptist church. The Rev. Tom Ratcliff officiated, with the Rev. Meredith Hair assisting. Burial was in Ogden Cemetery. A native of Louisiana, Mr. Hawsey was born August 26, 1878. He died Monday at Rogers Clinic after an illness of about 11 days. Surviving Mr. Hawsey are: two sons, Jeff and L. J. Hawsey, both of Winnsboro; four daughters, Mrs. Ed Luckey and Mrs. William M. Nugent, both of Monroe, and Mrs. Earl Smith and Mrs. W.M. Turnage, both of Winnsboro; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Hayle, Winnsboro, and Mrs. A. F. Mathews, El Dorado, Ark.; 18 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Submitter's note: Andrew Jackson Hawsey, Jr., a native of Conecuh Co, Alabama, was born to the union of Andrew Jackson Hawsey, Sr. and Sarah Bonita Fuller on August 26, 1878. He married Pearl Adire Smith on June 14, 1903. He died February 18, 1963. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Pearl Smith Hawsey and two sons, Vernon Talmage Hawsey and Charles R. Mrs. Jordan was a native of Columbia, where she was born September 8, 1883. Graveside funeral services were held at Jordan cemetery at Columbia at 3 p.m. February 9. Survivors are: three sons, John Burton Jordan, Columbia, Walter F. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of First National Funeral home. The Rev. Joe Mongle, assisted by the Rev. J. A. O. Russell, officiated. Burial followed in Memorial Park cemetery, Monroe. Mr. Neal is survived by: his wife, Mrs. Roxie Neal, Winnsboro; two sons, W. J. Neal, Houston, Tex., Roy Neal, Bossier City; four daughters, Mrs. J. W. Brown, Memphis, Tenn., Mrs. R. H. Hudson, Bastrop, Mrs. W. T. Eyre and Mrs. Lorena Beauchamp. both of Monroe; two step-sons, Herman Hansford, Monroe, and Homer Hansford, Ferriday; two step-daughters, Mrs. Louis Baker, Stockland, Mo., and Mrs. Dan Stewart, Tallulah; a sister, Mrs. J. The Revs. E. A. Keesler and Paul E. Brooks officiated. Burial was in Prewitt cemetery. Mrs. Underwood, born October 23, 1878 in Richland parish, died February 12 at her home after a short illness. She is survived by a daughter, Miss Eva Underwood, Mangham, and a brother, J. R. Hewitt, Baskin. Pallbearers were R. L. Bell Jr., Bennie Boughton, Nick Piro, Bennie Hixson, Odell DeVille and Frank Etier. ------------------------------------------------------ The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA February 14, 1963 Submitted June 2009 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Mrs. Pauline Williams Funeral services for Mrs. Pauline Paul Williams of Liddieville community were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the church to which she had devoted much of her time and thought, Liddieville Free Methodist church. An active church and WMS member, Mrs. Williams died Sunday, at a local hospital after an illness of a month. She had celebrated her 86th birthday on February 6. Mrs. Williams was a native of Rapides parish, and came to Liddieville to live after her marriage to the late James B. Williams. Of her life, the Rev. Perry Kent, who assisted the Rev. L. E. Poole in funeral services, said, "Yours (Mrs. Williams') life has been a beautiful life because you have focused your attention upon those things which are most worthwhile. Your home has been the center of your affection and of your toil. ...You have loved goodness until you have become the embodiment of that which you loved. ... Your friends have multiplied through the years." Mrs. Williams is survived by: three daughters, Mrs. Leola Brown and Mrs. Lela Peel, both of Winnsboro, and Mrs. Eva Bryan, Lacassiene; three sons, John Williams of Winnsboro, Wesley Williams of Cullen, and Col. Joseph B. Williams of Colton, Calif.; a brother, Jack Paul, Effie; a sister, Mrs. Emmie Anderson, Boyce; 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Melvin W. Whitzell, Melvin W. Whitzell, Jr., Marshall Peel, Jr., Earl Polk, James Paul Smith and Marion Frank Bryan. Interment was in Ogden cemetery. -----------------------------------------------------
