D. Bennett of Winnsboro. Mr. Bennett, a retired farmer and native of Mississippi, died March 17 at Riley Rest home here. He was a member of the Assembly of God church. The Rev. F. W. Mixon, assisted by the Rev. R. J. Finley, officiated. Interment was in Ogden cemetery. Surviving Mr. Bennett are: his wife, Mrs. J. V. Bennett of Winnsboro; a daughter, Mrs. Talmadge Prather of Lake Charles; his brother; three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Talmadge Prather, Elmer O'Briant, Leo O'Briant, R. C. O'Briant, Jerry Wiggins and Jean Allen. ************************************ The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA March 7, 1963 Submitted May 2006 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Gordy Hines Johnston Funeral services for Gordy Hines Johnston of route two, Winnsboro, were conducted at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Boeuf River Baptist church. A farmer, Mr. Johnston was born June 2, 1907 in Franklin parish. He died Tuesday at a Monroe hospital. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Gladys Johnston, Winnsboro; a son, G. W. Johnston, Sorrento; four daughters, Mrs. James Beatty, Mrs. Charlie Ray Jennings and Mrs. Dolphus Tarver, all of Winnsboro, and Mrs. Bobby Collins, Houma; two brothers, J. H. Johnston, Winnsboro, and Lawrence Johnston, Vidalia; a sister, Mrs. Jessie McCarty, West Monroe; and 15 grandchildren. The Revs. Meredith Hair and L. F. LaPrairie officiated. Interment was in Ogden cemetery. *********************************** The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA March 14, 1963 Submitted May 2006 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Valentine Lakota A former Winnsboro resident, Valentine Lakota, died March 6 in Chicago, Ill. He was 65 years. Funeral services for Mr. Lakota, a retired railroad employee, were held at Chicago Friday. Interment was in Ogden cemetery Sunday. Survivors are his wife, Ruth Brown Lakota, Chicago; two sons, Jessie B. Lakota, Hurst, Tex., and Jerald Lakota, Chicago; a daughter, Edith Lakota, Chicago; two brothers and four sisters. Pallbearers were Bob Fowler, J. B. Williams, M. O. Whitsel Jr., M. O. Whitsel, Sr., J. B. Brown and Carl Williams. *********************************************************
