A native of Winnsboro, Judge Ellis served on the bench of the Fifth Judicial District, which embraces Richland, Franklin and West Carroll parishes, from 1930 until 1954 when he retired. He was district attorney of the three parishes from 1916 until 1930, when he became judge, except for two years during World War I. Since his retirement from the judicial post, he was associated with the legal firm of Ellis and Ellis. From 1928 until 1949, he served as president of the Richland State Bank and has since been chairman of the school board. Mr. Ellis was educated in the public schools of Rayville, and Staunton Military Academy in Virginia. He received a degree in engineering from the University of the South, Sewanee, Tenn., and his law degree from Tulane University, New Orleans. He held memberships in the Fifth District Bar Association, Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity, was a member of the board of directors for the Richland State Bank and the St. David's Episcopal Church, Rayville. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Margaret A. Fannett Ellis, Rayville; one son, Carey James Ellis, Jr., Rayville; two daughters, Mrs. William M. Green, Rayville, and Mrs. Harry Brian, Alexandria; one sister, Mrs. Wallace Atchinson, Summit, Miss.; and seven grandchildren. ------------------------------------------------------- The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA July 30, 1964 Submitted October 2009 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Mrs. Gladys Guillot Mrs. Gladys Ferrington Guillot, 53, of Port Allen and a native of Franklin Parish, died July 26, 1964, at a Plaquemine hospital. Among her survivors are several north Louisiana residents. Funeral services were held at the Simmesport Methodist Church. Burial was in the Protestant Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Wilno Guillot, Port Allen; her father, J. C. Ferrington, Winnsboro; five sons, P. W. Guillot, Plaucheville; Troy Guillot, Alexandria; Robert Guillot, Houston, Tex,; John Guillot, Gilbert; Irwin Guillot, Port Allen; four step-sons, Alvin Guillot, Alexandria; Douglas Guillot, Baton Rouge; Wallace Guillot, Pensacola, Fla.; Raymond Guillot, Hawaii; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Langlois, Pearl River, La.; Mrs. George Donachricha, Fordoche, La.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Dewey Brownell, Winnsboro; Mrs. Douglas Brownell, New Iberia; two sisters, Mrs. Ellis Dupree, Baton Rouge; Mrs. Nolan Sanders, Winnsboro; seven brothers, Mack Ferrington, Columbia; J. C. She was a native of Columbia. Services were held at Mulhearn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Mongle and J. A. Hawthorne officiating. Interment was in Chase Cemetery. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mattie Stuckey, and one son, Bill Young, both of Winnsboro; one brother, Louis Taylor, Olla; one half-brother, John Taylor, Clarks; and one half-sister, Mrs. Jack McDonald, Kelly. Pallbearers were J. Q. Chapman, B. Wallace, Lamar Johnson, H. B. Rollins and Nathan Hawthorne. ---------------------------------------------------
