W. Knight Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at First National Chapel, Winnsboro, for Jeff W. Knight, 69, of Crowville. Burial was in the Pine Hill Cemetery near Sicily Island. The Rev. Charles Chapman officiated at the rites. Mr. Knight died Friday night at the Veterans Hospital in Alexandria. A retired mechanic, he was a member of the Crowville Masonic Lodge and of the Hanna-Richardson Post of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Knight is survived by a son, Dr. William R. Knight, Dallas, Tex.; a daughter, Mrs. Modean Cornett, Monroe; two sisters, Mrs. J. W. East, Fairfield, Okla., and Mrs. J. L. Kinney, Levelland, Tex., and three grandchildren. *********************************************************** Submitted by: Glenda Warner Boyd The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA March 23, 1967 Vol 110 No 34 Page 1 Local Soldier Killed in Action Clarence Edward Rollen Pfc. Clarence E. Rollen, 20, of Winnsboro was killed March 14 while on combat duty in Viet Nam. His mother, Mrs. Olene L. Cureington, Route 5, was notified last Thursday by telegram that her son had been killed, after she had first received the news from an Army officer. The body was returned to the United States by airlift, and was brought to Winnsboro Monday night from Jackson, Miss. The body was accompanied by a military escort. Funeral services were held here Wednesday afternoon at First National Chapel and burial was in Ogden Cemetery. Officiating at the rites were the Rev. Jimmie Shepherd, the Rev. Lee Smith and the Rev. Larry Walker. Military services were conducted at the graveside. The young soldier had been in Viet Nam for only a month. He had been in Winnsboro on leave before returning to duty, to go to Viet Nam. He enlisted in the Army last September 1. He had been employed at the Shop-Rite store here until it was closed last year. He was employed at The Franklin Sun, in the printing department for several months in 1965. Survivors, in addition to his mother, are a brother, Ronnie Rollen, Rt. 5, Winnsboro: his step-father, Willie Cureington, Rt. 5, Winnsboro; two stepbrothers, Billy Ray Cureington, Monroe, and Roy Earl Cureington, Winnsboro; a stepsister, Helen Cureington, Rt. 5, Winnsboro; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Leonard, Rt. 3, Winnsboro, and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rollen, Sr., Winnsboro. *************************************************** The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA March 9, 1967 Submitted by: Glenda Warner Boyd Mrs. Mirty Sanders Last rites for Mrs. Mirty Sanders of Winnsboro were conducted Monday afternoon, with funeral services at the Shady Grove Baptist Church and interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Lee Smith and the Rev. Mack Waller officiated. Mrs. Sanders, 87, succumbed Monday in a hospital here. She is survived by two sons, Clarence and Nolan Sanders, Winnsboro; five daughters, Mrs. Maudie Mercer, Mrs. Emma Wood and Mrs. Lottie Wiggins of Winnsboro, Mrs. Edna Freeman, Ferriday, and Mrs. Clara Sowell, Crowville; three brothers, Ervin Taylor of Goodwill community in West Carroll Parish, Lee Taylor, Mound, and Napoleaon Taylor, Astoria, Ill.; 18 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. *******************************************************
