Alford, Winnsboro, who died April 11 at a nursing home here, was interred last Wednesday afternoon in the Lone Cedar Cemetery. Funeral services were held at the Lone Cedar Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bobby Brown and the Rev. John Kitchens officiating. Surviving Mr. Alford are a son, Almond C. Alford, Transylvania; a sister, Mrs. B. C. She was to be buried today in Union Cemetery, near Baskin, following funeral services at First National Chapel in Winnsboro. The rites were to be conducted by the Rev. John Carberg, pastor of the Winnsboro and Baskin Presbyterian Churches. Mrs. Archibald is survived by three sons, R. B. Archibald of West Monroe, Frank Archibald, Kilgore, Tex., and Cecil Archibald, Milwaukee, Wisc.; three daughters, Mrs. Haven Lowry of Winnsboro, Mrs. Mary Stewart Sorrell, Shreveport, and Mrs. Lalarie Boyle, Winnsboro; a step-daughter, Mrs. Willie Bradford, Archibald; a sister, Mrs. Rene McIntosh, Houston, Tex.; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. ********************************************************* Submitted by Glenda Warner Boyd July 2005 The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA April 13, 1967 Vol. 110 No. 37 Page 6 W. E. Chipmon Funeral services for William E. Chipmon, 77, of Ruston were held Monday afternoon at the Coax Baptist Church, near here, with burial following in the church cemetery. Mr. Chipmon, a retired shoe repairman, died Sunday in a local nursing home, after a long illness. His survivors include a daughter and a brother who reside here. Cooper, Sr. of Ridgecrest, formerly of Gilbert, was buried Monday morning in Providence Memorial Park, near Winnsboro, following funeral rites at Calvary Baptist Church, Gilbert, with the Rev. John Meek of Olla, formerly of Gilbert, conducting the services. Mr. Cooper, 84, had been ill for a prolonged period. He died Saturday morning at his residence. Surviving are his wife; two sons, D. F. Cooper, Jr. of Gilbert and Jack W. Cooper, Port Neches, Tex.; a stepson, Ben Cox, Houston, Tex.; two daughters, Mrs. Geneva Cox, Ridgecrest, and Mrs. E. R. Ray Cox Eighteen-year-old William Ray Cox, a victim of an April 8 swimming accident, was interred Tuesday afternoon in Coax Cemetery, near here, after funeral services had been conducted at Temple Baptist Church. Officiating at the rites were the Rev. Paul Kolb, the Rev. Jimmy Shepherd and Dr. Randall Slegde. The young man died in a Monroe hospital about 1 a.m. Monday. He had been injured while swimming with his wife, Mrs. Bonita Ann Davis Cox, and two companions, Charles Martin of Baskin and Jane Walker of Sicily Island, in Sayers Lake, near Mangham. After coming out of the water because it was "too cold", young Cox said he was going to dive once more, and then they would all go home. He did dive, and when he came to the surface his head was bleeding. He said, "Get me out; I can't move," and then submerged. He was pulled out of the water by Martin. He was taken, paralyzed, to the Monroe hospital. There was a high break in the neck. Surviving the youth are his wife; his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. W. W. Cox, Baskin; three sisters, Mrs. Harold Wallace of Crossett, Ark., Miss Faye Cox, Baton Rouge, and Miss Alma Ruth Cox, Baskin; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Ida Cox, Monroe; his maternal grandfather, Olyer Gravin, Baskin. ----------------------------------------------------- The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA April 20, 1967 Submitted October 2009 by: Glenda Warner Boyd R. L. Garner Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Crowville Baptist Church, followed by burial in the Crowville Masonic Cemetery, for Richard L. Garner of Route 1, Baskin. Mr. Garner, 86, died last Thursday afternoon at a hospital here after a lengthy illness. Conducting the rites were the Rev. C. T. Smith and the Rev. Phillip LaBorde. Mr. Garner was a member of the Crowville Masonic Lodge and the Crowville Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Vina B. Garner; eight sons and stepsons, Alton McKeithen of Baskin, Billy McKeithen of Crowville, Charles McKeithen of Shreveport, A. C. Burial was in the South Central Cemetery, near Wisner. The rites were conducted by the Rev. W. H. Warbington and the Rev. Carlton Vance. Mr. Glasscock died unexpectedly early Tuesday at his residence. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Allie Tidwell Glasscock; a son, Shelby Glasscock, Jr., Oak Grove; four daughters, Mrs. D. F. Sara Jane McCarty, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pete McCarty, Route 2, Winnsboro, ran from the house to meet her father as he pulled into the area on the tractor. She was apparently knocked down by the front wheel and crushed under the left rear wheel. The funeral was at the Liddieville Free Methodist Church, and interment was in the Ogden Cemetery, with the Rev. Voyte Bradford officiating. Parker, 89, of Crowville was buried Wednesday afternoon in Harris Cemetery, after funeral rites had been conducted at the Crowville Baptist Church, with the Rev. C.T. Smith, the Rev. Joe Mercer and the Rev. Larry Walker officiating. She died Tuesday in a hospital here after a long illness. Rollins, Jr. Final rites were held Friday afternoon for Henry Baskin Rollins, Jr., Route 3, Winnsboro, with the Rev. T.F. Tenney, the Rev. J.E. Chance and the Rev. H. L McGaha officiating. The funeral was at the First United Pentecostal Church here, and burial was in Harris Cemetery. Mr. Rollins succumbed last Wednesday night, after a brief illness, at a hospital in Monroe. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Modene Fitzgerald Rollins, Winnsboro; five sons, Roney, Jerry, H.B., III, Bruce and Gary Rollins, all of Winnsboro; two daughters, Misses Vickie Rollins, both of Winnsboro; his mother, Mrs. H.B. Marion Byrd officiating. Miss Scott, a Crowville High School senior, died Sunday morning. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Scott; two sisters, Mrs. Sandra Sutherlin, Baton Rouge, and Mrs. Carolyn Ashley, Delhi; her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Clara Scott, Winnsboro, and her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Lynch, Mangham. Douglas Williams officiating. She succumbed in a nursing home here early Saturday, following a long illness. D. Walter, Sr. Last rites were conducted here Saturday morning for Mrs. Hattie Fay Walter, 91-year-old lifelong resident of Winnsboro. The funeral was at Mulhearn Chapel, and interment was in the "old" Winnsboro cemetery. Mrs. Walter succumbed last Thursday afternoon at her residence. She had been ill for an extended period. The wife of the late E. D. Walter, Sr., Winnsboro businessman and a leader in affairs of the community, Mrs. Walter had been active in church and civic work until her illness. She was a member of the Mizpah Chapter of the Eastern Star. She is survived by a son, Edwin D.
