Mrs. Viva Inez Davis
Funeral services for Mrs. Viva Herlong Davis, 79, of Winnsboro, were 
held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ in Winnsboro, with 
the Rev. Tom Swillie officiating.
Burial was in Chase Cemetery at Chase.
Mrs. Davis died Wednesday at Franklin Parish Hospital here.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Inez Phillips of Archibald, Mrs. 
Viva Tarver, of Houston, Tex., Mrs. Fran Glasscock of Winnsboro, 
and Mrs. Emmy Hawk of Springfield, Ohio; six sons, William H. Davis
of Ferriday, Jim Davis, Bobby Davis and John H. Davis, all of Houston,
Tex., Woodie Davis of Winnsboro, Tommy Davis of Eva Beach, Hawaii.

Willie B. Harveston

Willie B. Harveston, 57, of Crowville, died Sunday at Winnsboro 
Sanitarium following a short illness.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Oak Grove Baptist 
Church near here.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Hermine Herbet Harveston of Crowville; 
one son, David Harveston of Crowville; four daughters, Mrs. Florence 
Archibald of Mangham, Mrs. Betty Caldwell of Baskin, Mrs. Jane Frey of 
Wisner and Miss Cynthia Harveston of Crowville; two brothers, J. E. Harveston 
of Clarks; three sisters, Mrs. Katie Mae Lively of Columbia, Mrs. Arzella Howard 
of Monroe and Mrs. Priscilla McCann of Pineville; and 13 grandchildren.

John M. Herrington
John Melbin Herrington, 68, of Gilbert died Wednesday morning 
of last week at his residence after a brief illness.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday at Jigger Pentecostal 
Church near Winnsboro with the Rev. Jack Jones officiating, 
assisted by the Rev. Jesse Boothe. Burial was in Providence 
Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Letha Rawls Herrington of Gilbert; 
three sons, James Earl Herrington of Delhi, Donnie Herrington and 
Daryl Herrington, both of Gilbert; two daughters, Mrs. Johnnie 
Townsend and Mrs. Linda Randall, both of Winnsboro; three 
brothers, Bill King, Ed King, both of Derman, Calif., and Walter 
King of Start; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Marsh of Sondheimer, 
Mrs. Ruby Platt and Mrs. Gldays Tataoff, both of Kerman; and 
three grandchildren.

J. H. Johnston
 
James Hansford Johnston, 78, of Winnsboro, died early Tuesday at the Riley 
Nursing Home in Winnsboro following a short illness.
 
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Mulhearn Funeral Chapel of 
Winnsboro with the Rev. Harold Davis officiating. Burial was in Ogden Cemetery. 
 
Mr. Johnston was a native of Winn Parish, a retired farmer and a member of the 
Boeuf River Baptist Church of Winnsboro.
 
In addition to his wife, Mrs. Emer Johnston of Winnsboro, he is survived by 
three sons, J. C. Johnston of Winnsboro; Grady Johnston of Baton Rouge and 
Willie Johnston of Meadville, Miss.; three daughters, Mrs. George Womack 
and Mrs. Charles Graves both of Natchez, Miss., and Mrs. Ernest Chevallier of 
Winnsboro; one brother, Lawrence Johnston of Vidalia; one sister, Mrs. Nancy McCarty 
of Monroe; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Shanna Smith
Shanna LaDrue Smith, the six-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip W. Smith 
of Vidalia, died Saturday in St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Holly Grove Baptist Church near Wisner 
with the Rev. Lee Smith officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, are two brothers, Michael Smith, and Donald Smith; 
a sister, Wendi Smith, all of Vidalia; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Aline Reagan, Grants, 
N. M.; paternal grandfather, David Smith, Jigger; maternal grandfather, David Goodger, 
Pollock; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Rose Wagley, Ferriday; a number of aunts and uncles.
