She was retired from the Drug Enforcement Administration and in recent years worked as office manager of Cypress Animal Hospital in Kenner. She was born in Baskin, and graduated as Co-Valedictorian in 1958. She graduated with honors from Louisiana Tech University with a degree in English Education/Library Science in 1961. She was the daughter of the late Profesor Felix Elwyn Lyles and the late educator Fannie Ellington Lyles, formerly of Baskin and later of Mangham. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Dr. James R. Dear of Bush, La., two brothers, Elwyn Campbell Lyles of Mangham, and William Joseph Lyles of Rayville. A memorial visitation will be held from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. at the Leitz- Egan Funeral Home at 4747 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie on Thursday July 3. An additional memorial service will be held in North Louisiana on Sunday, July 6, at 3 p.m. at the Baskin Baptist Church with Brother Jimmy Shepherd conducting the memorial. In lieu of flowers it is requested that a contribution be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 3100 Sanford Avenue, Shreveport, Louisiana 71103 or to the F. E. He was a native and resident of Franklin Parish, retired manager of Franklin Cotton Warehouse, past member of the Winnsboro Lions Club, Winnsboro-Franklin Parish Chamber, a member of First United Pentecostal Church Winnsboro and served in the United States Air Force. Interment will follow in Providence Memorial under the direction of Mulhearn's Funeral Home, Winnsboro. Odis Thornton was born May 3, 1904 in Winn Parish. He was the last surviving offspring of Thomas Monroe and Martha Ann Thompson Thornton. Mr. Thornton was a retired farmer and cattleman, living most of his adult life in Franklin Parish. He had a love of nature and wildlife and a passion for hunting and fishing. He delighted in stories of the camp on the Tensas River. "Granddaddy" was loving and devoted to his family. Mr. Thornton departed this earth June 30, 1997 surrounded by his kind and beloved caregivers of Franklin Guest Home. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Frances Eveline Thornton and one grandson, Brian Rasberry. Survivors include two daughters and sons in law, Annie and William N. He was a retired barber and a member of the Pentecostal faith. He is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Ola (Taylor) Williams, a brother, James Harold Williams; and a nephew, Dennis H.
