W.H. 'Bud' Johnston
 
Funeral services for Mr. W.H. "Bud" Johnston, 74, of Winnsboro, were held 
at Boeuf River Baptist Church in Liddieville Friday, July 5, at 2 p.m. with the 
Rev. Jimmy Harper officiating.
 
Interment was in Ogden Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
 
Mr. Johnston was born Jan. 18, 1928, in Franklin Parish to Hardy Johnston and Nettie Wright Johnston. 
He died July 3, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center.
 
He was raised in the Liddievillle Community where he attended Ogden High School and excelled in 
basketball. After graduating, he served in the U.S. Army, 69th Eng. Company, Seoul, Korea. After 
returning home, he became a farmer, He stayed close to basketball, serving as an official for 30 years. 
He also served on the Franklin Parish Police Jury. He was a member of Boeuf River Baptist Church.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Minnie Betts, and brother, Billy Ray Johnston.
 
Survivors include two sons, Rickey Johnston and his wife Jean of Winnsboro, and Larry Heath of West 
Monroe; sisters, Ruby Davis of Winnsboro, Addie Massey of Choudrant and Allie Mayers of Natchez; 
five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
 
Serving as pallbearers were John Horne, John W. Powell, Bobby Wood, Henry Rolen, Harold Russell and 
Jeff Johnston.
 
Honorary pallbearers were members of his 1946 Ogden High School basketball team; Barney Taylor, 
Willy Ray Sasser, O.J. Ratcliff, Marion Simons, Sidney Ray Ross, Donald Wright and Huey McClure.
 
Members of the VFW Post 3155 conducted a flag presentation ceremony.
