Mr. Higdon died Monday, August 18, 2003 at Holly Hill Nursing Home in Sulphur. He was born August 16, 1921 in Epps, La. He was a farmer and a member of the Baptist faith. Mr. Higdon was a World War II and Korean War Army Veteran. He served in France, Germany, Korea, Japan, Guam, Philippines and New Guinea. He served in the CC Camp. On Dec. 1, 1945, he received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon and the National Defense Ribbon. He also received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars, and Philippines Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star. Before and after his military services he worked as a sharecropper, farming cotton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Higdon and Eliza Wilkerson Higdon; two brothers, "Bay" and "Bo" Higdon; sister, Beulah Mae Guimbellot; and a son, Elmer Sam Higdon. Mr. Tarver was born November 25, 1920 in Winnsboro and passed from this life on August 22, 2003, at Franklin Medical Center. He was a member of First United Pentecostal Church in Winnsboro. Mr. Tarver retired with the Louisiana Department of Transportation, District 58, in Chase. Mr. Tarver was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Goldie Tarver; three sisters, Margarette Borlew, Theo Hendry, Lillian Hendry; one brother, William "Pete" Tarver. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Reva Ernestine Tarver of Winnsboro; five children, Lance "Shorty" Tarver of Winnsboro; Alvin R. He was a native, a lifelong resident and a farmer of Franklin Parish. His wife Ann Temple preceded him in death.
