C. J. Beck officiating. Interment followed at Providence Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home Winnsboro. Mrs. Emfinger was born Aug. 13, 1935 in Winnsboro, and passed away Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006 at her residence. She was a resident of Winnsboro, a homemaker and a member of Bayou Macon Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Oliver Temple; mother, Sadie (Gordy) Temple; and brother, Herbert Temple. Survivors include two sons: Terry Emfinger, Natchez, Miss.; Richard Emfinger, Winnsboro; two daughters, Lori Beck, West Monroe; Trace Merritt, Winnsboro; five brothers, L. B. Temple, Noel Temple, Nolan Temple, Curtis Temple, and James Temple, all of Winnsboro; sister, Lendy Donnell, Columbia; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. ------------------------------------------------------ The Franklin Sun Winnsboro, LA January 11, 2006 Submitted October 2009 by: Glenda Warner Boyd Ophelia Barfield Housley Funeral services for Ophelia Barfield Housley, 83, of Wisner were held Saturday at South Central Baptist Church in Wisner with Rev. Bill Gueringer and Rev. Mike Devillier officiating. Interment followed in Providence Memorial Cemetery near Winnsboro under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro. She was born to the union of Felix William and Emma Ophelia Posey Barfield on May 2, 1922 in Winnsboro and went to be with the Lord Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006 in Wisner. Mrs. Housley was a member of South Central Baptist Church in Wisner. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years Sollie Housley; son Eckles Alonzo Housley, granddaughter Deanna Lynn Housley; great-great grandson Job Pressnos; brother William Barfield; and a sister Edna Jones. She is survived by four children Clyde Housley, Barbara Jones and husband George, Patricia McMahan all of Wisner and Evelyn Diel and husband Steven of Monroe; brother J.S. Barfield of Tyler Texas; sisters Irene McCartney of New Iberia, and Essie Barfield of Winnsboro; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Harry Boyd officiating. Hazel Sharp May, age 89, of Winnsboro died Monday, January 16, 2006 at the Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro. Born September 28, 1916 in Covington, LA to the union of David and Delphine Sharp, Mrs. May moved to Winnsboro from Baton Rouge in 1957. A longtime member of First Baptist Church, she was a member of the choir and flower committee and taught Sunday School and Girl's Auxiliary for many years. October 11, 1990 was declared Hazel May Day in Winnsboro to honor her for her service to the Pink Ladies Society and the community. As a charter member of the Garden Gate Study Club, Mrs. May was awarded the "Circle of Roses" in 2000 for her standard of excellence in floral design. Her hobbies included oil painting, crewel embroidery, and plate painting. Mrs. May prided herself for years in her garden, especially her irises, and her flowers have graced many wedding showers and church alters. Mr. and Mrs. May are survived by their son: Stanley Ray Mixon of Jackson, MS, their daughter: Marion Mixon Johnston and her husband: Donnie of New Orleans, five grandchildren: Robin Mixon Colby of Atlanta, GA, Amanda Johnston Talley of Bowling Green, KY, Shelley Mixon Waller of Winnsboro, Mathew Aaron Mixon and Lacey Lea Mixon both of Jackson, MS and six great-grandchildren: Joshua Ryan Colby, Jonathon Reagan Colby, Braxton Everett Talley, Jackson Thomas Talley, Zachery Waller and Zadiee Waller. He was preceded in death by forty- eight hours by his wife of forty-nine years, Hazel S. May. Born May 9, 1922 in Columbia, LA to the union of Saint Elmo and Maggie Coates May, Mr. May was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Louisiana State University with a degree in agricultural engineering. He retired from the US Department of Agriculture, North Louisiana Soil Conservation District in 1985. Mr. May was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winnsboro. He was an accomplished gardener and for years loved repairing antique clocks. Mr. May enjoyed returning to his birthplace in Columbia where he was an avid hunter and charter member of the May Hunting Club. Mrs. Russell was born Dec. 17, 1925 in Winnsboro, and passed away Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006 at Plantation Manor Nursing Home Winnsboro. She was a resident of Monroe, formerly of Winnsboro, a retired registered nurse, and a member of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Lavell Russell; father, James Thomas Searcy, mother, Maggie Russell Searcy; brother, James M. Searcy Sr. Survivors include a sister, Sadie Gilbert, Winnsboro; aunt, Grace Russell Smith, Liddieville; numerous nieces and nephews.
