She was born to James R. Vickers and Mattie Heath Vickers on June 19, 1918 near Mangham and passed from this life on Jan. 3, 2007 at her home near Crowville. Mrs. Allen was a member of Lamar Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bobby W. Allen; granddaughter Deborah Parker; two brothers James and Henry “Tot” Vickers and a sister Pearl Lightsey. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and doting grandmother who dedicated her life to those she loved. She will be missed by her five children: B. J. He was involved with Dixie Youth Baseball and was a Scout Master with the Boys Scouts of America for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter and a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Champlin faithfully served our country during World War II, in United States Army for which he received the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal. He also honorably served in the Air Force Reserve from 1946 to 1952. Mr. Champlin retired in 1980 from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development as District Project Engineer after 33 years of service. He was past member of the Kiwanis Club and a Life Member of the Louisiana Highway Engineer Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and raising cattle, and loved spending time on his farm with his grandchildren. Jan. 19 at Central Baptist Church in Port Arthur, Texas. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at Clayton-Thompson Funeral Home, Groves, Texas. A brief graveside commemoration will be conducted at the Flint Community Cemetery, Flint, Texas, at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Georgia Mildred Wactor Coleman was born April 24, 1915 in Franklin Parish, Louisiana, the youngest of eight children of William D. and Clara Wactor. She passed away Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007 at her home. Her father was a farmer and a locally renowned hunter and fisherman, occasionally serving as a guide in the woodlands and waters of the Tensas River region. Among those he took hunting was Detroit Tigers pitching ace Schoolboy Rowe, for whom Mrs. Coleman remembered helping her mother prepare a meal. In high scholl, Mrs. Coleman was an accomplished basketball player. She played guard on the Gilbert (Louisiana) High School team that went to the state championship in 1932. Mrs. Coleman met her husband, whom she married in 1936, while visiting her sister in Port Arthur, Texas. They lived in the Port Arthur area until 1952, when Mr. Coleman's work took them to Lorain, Ohio. The returned to southeastern Texas in 1963. After Mr. Coleman retired in 1976, they moved to nearby Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, where they maintained a country homestead until reluctantly relocating to Canyon, Texas, at their son's bequest, in 1999. A homemaker, Mrs. Coleman was known for her hospitality and warmth. She maintained lively and affectionate communication with a wide network of friends and relatives until the end of her life. She was a devoted Christian and a longstanding member of Central Baptist Church in Port Arthur, where she and her husband forged enduring friendships with members of a young adult group they led in the 1940s. Mrs. Coleman was preceded in death by her sisters, Susan ("Sister"), Minnie, Lula, Eula, Harriet, and Dollie; her brother Abraham ("Bud"); and her husband, Fred P. Coleman. The death of her last surviving sibling, Harriet, about whom she cherished memories of childhood camaraderie, and, in later years, of sewing and crocheting together, came less than a day before her own. She is survived by her son, Paul, daughter-in-law, Carol, and nine-year-old grandson, Frederick, of Canyon, Texas, and a host of relatives and friends. She was married 64 years to the late Forrest Brown Davis, Sr. They lived in the Monroe area before moving to Texas. For the last year Sallie has lived with her daughter and son-in-law Marguerete and James McLemore in Winnsboro, La. In addition to being a housewife and mother, Sallie was active in her church and community affairs. One of the joys of Sallie’s life was her Angel ministry, filling her hours with sewing and designing hundreds of hand-made angels. Her angels were gifts to friends and those who needed a special blessing. Larry Russell officiating. Burial followed in New Winnsboro Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Mr. Donnell died Jan. 5, 2007. Mr. Donnell was born at his parent's home in Winnsboro where he grew up and went to school. He attended Louisiana Tech and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, but aviation was his dream. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol while in college and two days after graduating enlisted in the Air Force and was sent to Spartan School of Aeronautics. Mr. Donnell rose to the rank of Captain working with Flight Operations and then Research and Development Command. After leaving the Air Force, he went on to work on the most advanced aircraft being developed at that time- the F7 fighter. the F8 Crusader, the F-104 Starfighter, the F-4 Phantom, and the guidance systems for the B-58 and the B-70. He also worked on the X-15 rocket plane at the Air Force Flight Test Center in California where he met and worked with a number of the men who were to become this nation's first astronaunts. Mr. Donnell was then invited to join the teams at NASA and given the task of establishing and leading the Criteria and Safety Standards Office for all future manned spacecraft flights. He worked with NASA through the Gemini, Apollo and Skylab projects. Through all these years he was commited to Jesus, his church and his family. He ministered in his churches through his songs as well as his word. In all that he did in life, he recognized that if he did not have love he had nothing. He looked forward to the day Jesus would say to him "well done, good, and faithful servant." Mr. Donnell was preceded in death by his parents, former Franklin Parish Clerk of Court, James R. Donnell and Lois Cheatwood Donnell. He was born to the union of Bennie and Nettie Chisholm Franklin on Feb. 20, 1924, in Crowville and passed from this life Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007 in Franklin Medical in Winnsboro. Mr. Franklin was baptized in 1940 in Crowville Baptist Church. He was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church and served as deacon. He also served as deacon of First Baptist Church in Winnsboro. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII on the USS Lexington CV16. He married Oleta Faye Lanier on January 26, 1946 in Crowville and remained her loving companion until her passing on June 11, 2004. He was a member of Masonic Lodge # 246, VFW Post 3155; he was an active member of the Civitan Club in Winnsboro and on a state level. During his years with the Civitan Club he and other members founded Civitan Park in Winnsboro. For many years he was a volunteer coach with Little League Baseball and Softball. He retired as Senior Service Technician from LA Gas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Mr. Franklin is survived by three children and their spouses: Duane and Eddie Franklin of Hooks, Texas, Ginger and Don Graham of Winnsboro, and Ronald and Dawn Franklin, of Baton Rouge; siblings Bernice Phillips of Tallulah, Hubert Franklin of Marion and Bennie Franklin Jr. and wife Robbie of Pearl,Miss. Mr. Hampton was born on Sept. 23, 1919 in Winnsboro, to Thompson and Saline Hampton. He passed away on Monday, Jan. 8, 2007. He graduated from Winnsboro before entering the service. He served his country during WWII with the Army Air Corp. He served as an airplane mechanic and was deployed to Manila, Philippines. He was a part of the 27th Bomb Group and the 48th Materiel Squadron. He was captured on Batan in Dec. 1941. He was in the Batan Death March, and was a Japanese P.O.W. for 3 1/2 years. He was transferred to Japan and remained there until they were liberated. He also worked for Sun Oil Co. for 36 years. He was a 60 year Mason, and achieved the 32nd degree, he was also a Shriner and a member of Mobberly Baptist Church, where he was very active in small group bible fellowship. Mr. Hampton was preceded by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Mary Hampton, Longview; children; Sybil Brumley, Oak Grove; Dan L. Services were conducted on Jan. 13 at 11 a.m. at Gill Funeral Home. Mrs. Riser was born the oldest of 12 children on Sept. 27, 1908 in Ft. Necessity, La. She later moved to Winnsboro, where she resided for 50 years. She was a resident of Shreveport for the past 28 years. She joined the Winnsboro Presbyterian Church in 1929 where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and choir member. She was a member of the W.O.C. and served in several offices. She was elected the first deaconess of the Presbyterian Church, elected the first woman elder, served as treasurer of the Building Fund, served two three year terms as elder, two years as treasurer of the Presbytery, two years as Registrar of Batesville Conference, five years on women’s division, one year as birthday interpreter of W.O.C., and 15 years as Registrar at Camp Alabama. She joined the John Calvin Presbytery Church in 1979, where she served as elder and was a member of W.O.C. She was also a member of the Esther Circle at Christ United Methodist Church, where she was active in both the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches in Shreveport. She retired from Winnsboro State Bank after 28 years of service. Prior to that she worked as secretary at the LSU extension office and was employed for several years at the ASCS office. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, W.J. “Red” Riser, her son, Jimmy Riser, one great-granddaughter, Jessica List, brothers, Alson, Clyde, Billy, and Georgie, her sisters, Alice, May, Lucille, and Ruby. Burial was in the Grayson Family Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home. William Buie Scriber was a life long resident of Franklin Parish. He graduated from Fort Necessity High School, Draughns Business School in Shreveport and following military service, from the first LSU School of Banking in Baton Rouge. In 1929, he joined the Winnsboro State Bank as a teller, working his way up to become President and Chairman of the Board. In 1980, he retired as President and later, in 1985, retired from the Board. Upon retirement, he was made Director Emeritus of Winnsboro State Bank. He served on various banking committees, both regional and state wide; including three years on the State Board of Louisiana Banker's Association. As a World War II veteran, Mr. Scriber served with the Army Air Corp in the China-Burma-India Theater as a finance officer. He entered basic training at Fort Benjamin Harrison, transferred to Barksdale and then went overseas. He was active in the civic and community affairs of Franklin Parish; serving on the Winnsboro Town Council for 12 years. Other positions included President of Winnsboro Lion's Club, President of the Franklin Parish School Board, and President of the Winnsboro-Franklin Parish Chamber of Commerce. He is past Commander of VFW Post 3155 and a member of Diamond-Hawthorne American Legion Post 84. Mr. Scriber loved his Church, the First United Methodist of Winnsboro, serving as a Lay Speaker, president of Men's Bible Class, Sunday School Superintendent, member of the Finance Committtee and various other church committees. He always considered it a privilege to be a “greeter” for those entering the sancutary. His parents, Mr. And Mrs. Harry Scriber, three brothers, Roy Scriber, Bernard Scriber and James Scriber, and grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. Harvey Willis and Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Scriber, preceded him in death. Mr. Scriber survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Virginia Harkey Scriber; one son, Bill Scriber and wife Mary Joan; one daughter, Ginger White and husband Cloid White; granddaughters Amy Scriber Szucs and Grayson White and grandsons Ben Scriber, Kris White, Stephen Scriber, Hunter White and Viktor Szucs; and one great-grandson, William Cole Szucs.
