'Lucky' Barnes Dewey G. "Lucky" Barnes was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma on January 1, 1921. He passed from this life on Tuesday, February 12, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Andre Barnes, and one grandson, Blake Tucker. He is survived by one son, Dr. Dewey G. Barnes III, and wife Pam, and daughters Donna and husband, Dr. Mike Tucker, and Carol and husband W. H. Sanders. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Dr. Dawn Pennebaker, Kristie McFarland, Dr. Mindy Williams, Kelly Kucin, and Dewey G. Barnes, IV and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Barnes was a decorated World War II bomber pilot, flying thirty missions in a B-17. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with 3 Oak-leaf Clusters and was always considered a hero by everyone except himself. He continued flying after the war as a "Crop Duster" and resided in Crowville for the last forty-three years. He was a mechanically-gifted man who loved to work with wood but could fix anything that moved. A tenure at Texas A&M was cut short due to the death of this father. He never knew anything but hard work, but never complained. 'Pete' Rials, Sr. Charles E. "Pete" Rials Sr. age 64, a native of Wisner, La and a resident of DeQuincy, La., died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at Dequincy Memorial Hospital in DeQuincy. Pete was born on July 15, 1943. He graduated High School in 1961. He attended LA Tech University where he met and married the love of his life, Judith Rogillio. After graduating from Tech with a Bachelor's Degree in Forestry, he went to work in Elizabeth, La, for Industrial Lumber Company which was subsequently acquired by Boise Southern. While residing in the Elizabeth area he coached T-ball. Dixie Youth and the 12 - 14 year old boys baseball team. Pete was also very active in independent softball and basketball. In the mid - 70's, he was named the American Pulpwood Association's Forester of the year. He was also an active member of the Louisiana Forestry Association. In 1973, he was transferred to DeQuincy where he was their area manager for both the DeQuincy and Elizabeth areas of timberland for Boise. He continued working in Dixie Youth, was instrumental in getting DeQuincy their first T-ball league, and helped to build the Dixie Youth field on LeBlanc Street. Pete was a charter member of the Board of Directors for DeQuincy Memorial Hospital where he served one year as President. He was a member of the DeQuincy Rotary Club for many years and also one of the founding members of the DeQuincy High Tigers 100 Club. He was Boise Cascade's Partner in Education Ambassador to Hyatt High School and was a staunch supporter of all activities at Hyatt High, especially the basketball teams. Pete was an avid sportsman who loved fishing, hunting, shrimping and traveling. He was passionate about basketball, baseball, football and golf and he excelled in them all. Above all that Pete loved in this life, nothing compared to the love he had for his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him and each life that he touched in his own special way. Survivors include her two sons: Wade Wright and James Griffing Wright; two daughters: Iva Wright Scott and Jeannette Wright Cascio; two wonderful and much loved daughters-in-law: Effie Arnold Wright and Maxine Walters Wright; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother: Ralph Griffing and wife, Jay; one brother-in-law: Charles E. Wright and wife, Jewel; two sisters-in-law: June Wright Wilson and Louise Walters Wright; a number of nieces and nephews.
