He was born to Jessie and Lillie Boughton Banks on Dec. 18, 1926 in Mangham and passed from this life Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Banks was a member of Coax Baptist Church and had served as treasurer. He was an Army veteran of WWII, where he served the occupational troops in Germany. He was a lifelong Franklin Parish farmer, past president of Franklin Parish Farm Bureau and past Committeeman the ASCS office. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law Mittie and Pee Wee Letts; brother and sister-in-law Herbert and Odeal Banks, and a nephew Joe Banks. He was born Jan. 9, 1925 at McCall Creek, Miss., son of Edward Leston and Eunice Smith Cowart. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for 40 years, was owner of Cowart Appliance and Refrigeration Service for 25 years. Mr. Cowart retired after working for the Natchez Public School Maintenance Department for 25 years. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and was a decorated veteran recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Woodman of the World and was a licensed pilot. Mr. Cowart was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He thought the world of his great-grandchildren, and loved spending time playing with them. Annie Lenora Guy Cupit was born to the union of Maggie Lee and James Lewis Guy Feb. 2, 1926 in Gilbert, and passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008 at St Francis Medical Center in Monroe. Lenora married XL Cupit on Nov. 22, 1945 and was blessed with 3 children: Patricia, James, and Brenda. She worked at the Grand Prize Stamp Store for the McLemore family for many years. Mrs. Cupit was loving and generous and the happiest while surrounded by her family. Nothing made her happier than taking care of "her babies." She spent many hours working in her yard and loved watching the leaves change. She also enjoyed vacationing with her family. She was a member of the Crowville United Methodist Church where she filled the church with many generations of family. God and Church were very important to her. She loved the annual barbecue. She served in various capacities in the church over the years and considered each member as part of her family. Dr. Rick Byargeon and Rev. Dale Oden officiated with burial to follow at Old Town Cemetery in Haynesville under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, La. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Winnsboro, Louisiana. Kathryn Almand Etzel went to the Lord on November 20, 2008 after suffering a lengthy illness. She was born on June 30, 1927 and spent her 81 years as a wonderful mother and teacher. Mrs. Etzel taught high school English at Winnsboro High School for 36 years, where she was affectionately known as "Mrs. E". She also taught in Summerfield, La., Delhi La., Emerson, Ark., and Houston, Texas. During her lifetime, she served in the church as an organist and teacher. She loved the WMU circle and her Sunday school classes in Winnsboro at First Baptist Church and later, at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston. She was a graduate of Haynesville High School and Baylor University, where she majored in piano and organ. She received a second Bachelor of Arts at Baylor in English. She received her Masterís degree and plus 30 from Northeast Louisiana University. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Almand, her first husband, Harold Dubose, her second husband, Dr. W. W. Etzel and son, Dodge Almand Etzel. Survivors include her daughter, Elicia Etzel Nugent and husband John; son, Todd Etzel and wife Becky; daughter, Angel Etzel Causey and husband Mike; grandchildren: Erik Etzel and wife Jennifer, Sarah Etzel Baur and husband Harold, Ethan Etzel, Angela Nugent, Rachel Nugent, Jonathan Nugent, Ellen Nugent, Kathryn Causey, Annie Etzel, Claire Causey, Blake Etzel, and Caroline Causey. Jr. enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding, traveling with friends and family, and singing in the church choir. Spending time with his family, his greatest joy of all.
