Officiants were the Reverends Jerry Grant, Dale Goodman, Doyle Adams, Don Blackmon, and Virgil Harris. Interment followed at Oakley Cemetery. Mrs. Barton was born Sept. 29, 1924 at Hattiesburg, Miss., and died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was a 1943 graduate of Baskin High School. She was a homemaker and served the community as a beautician for 45 years, as well as a life-long member of First Baptist Church of Gilbert. Her life has been spent serving her family, church, and friends. She will truly be missed by all. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Thomas Barton of Gilbert; three sons: Don Barton and wife Dannie Sue of Gilbert; Danny Joe Barton and wife Wanda of Gilbert; and Tommy Barton and wife Candy of Jena; three sisters: Mae Barney and Audie Lewis, both of Baskin; and Tyreau Bruce of Sulphur, La.; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. 'Jack' Miller Garvin O. "Jack" Miller, 93, was born August 19, 1915 to the union of Eppie & Lena Campbell Miller. He was called home January 26, 2009. Garvin was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Louise Westerburg Miller; an infant son, Garvin Miller, Jr., and 10 brothers and sisters. He was a long time resident of Winnsboro, however, lived the past three years at LaSalle Nursing Home in Jena. He was a veteran of WWII, an active member of VFW Post 3155, and a Deacon Emeritus of Temple Baptist Church in Winnsboro. Services were held at Temple Baptist Church with Rev. William Busby officiating. Burial was in the New Winnsboro Cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home. Stephens A funeral service for Sonny N. Stephens, 76, of Winnsboro was held Tuesday, February 10, 2009, in Temple Baptist Church Sanctuary under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home with Reverends Scott Fletcher, Mark Powell and Jason Foster officiating. Graveside services will follow in Lone Cherry Church Cemetery in Richland Parish. Mr. Stephens was born January 11, 1933 in Richland Parish, and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 7, 2009, while in Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, Louisiana, after an extended illness. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church of Winnsboro and the World Congress of Baptist Men and was an ordained deacon. He loved his Sunday School class taught by Don Middleton. Sonny was one of the founders of Bread of Life Missions, Inc. Because of his love for missions, he participated in several missionary endeavors in the Northwest United States and Mexico; and he has been a lay speaker as well as serving as interim pastor. He had a great love for bluegrass and gospel bluegrass music. Being a banjo and mandolin player, he played with several bluegrass gospel bands. In 1963 he was the last person in Louisiana to earn a degree in law under the Grandfather Rule by passing the Bar studying at home without attending law school. In 1978 he was elected to a Fifth District Judgeship. Sonny earned the rank of Lieutenant in the Louisiana National Guard. During what could have been retirement years, Sonny taught school, coached girls basketball, and drove a school bus for Baskin Junior High School. Preceding Sonny in death were his parents Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Stephens and a daughter Sonni Lynn Ezell. His surviving family includes his wife of 55 years Z. Ruth Fletcher Stephens; son Judge James Mark Stephens and wife Faith of Baskin, Louisiana; son Matthew Fletcher Stephens and wife Cynthia of Calhoun, Louisiana; daughter Shonni Leah Oswald and husband Fred of Folson, Louisiana; brother Johnny Stephens and wife Betty of Lebanon, Tennessee; and sister Patsy Wilson and husband Tommy of Lebanon, Tennessee. His grandchildren are Stephen Ezell, Tyler Ezell, David Stephens, Hollyn Stephens, Dakota Stephens, Ru Oswald, Sonni Lynn Oswald, and Darby Stephens. His great grandchild is Dylan Ezell. Welch Funeral services for Noah B. Welch, age 79, of Gilbert, were held Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009 at River of Life Church of Winnsboro, with Bro. David Phillips officiating. Interment followed in South Central Cemetery near Wisner under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Mr. Welch was a trucker for 55 years, he loved his grandchild and great-grandchildren, and loved to raise hogs. He was preceded in death by his wife: Ruth M. Welch; daughter: Carolyn Sue Welch McCaul; great grandchild: Lester Kane Cardin, three brothers: O. J. Sikes, Billy Faye Welch, and Dennis Ray Welch.
