Mr. Arnold was born Oct. 29, 1922 in Sicily Island, and died Saturday, March 28, 2009 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was a retired farmer and had worked for the Tensas River National Wildlife Refuge. He was also a WWII veteran. Mr. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Annie Bell Arnold, and nine siblings. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley Faye Arnold, Crowville; one son, David D. Arnold Jr., Crowville; four daughters, Annie Arnold, Jackson, Miss.; Kay King, Macon, Ga.; Janice Cooper, Crowville; Brenda McDonald, Tallulah; and former son-in-law, Teddy Howington, Wisner; one brother, Ray Arnold, Monroe; three sisters, Joan Cartlidge, Point; Sue Parker, Crowville; and Verlene Almond, Tallulah; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and was awaiting the birth of three more. Funeral services are 10a.m. today (Wednesday), April 22, 2009 at Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko, Miss., with burial in the Richardson Family Cemetery in Jena, La. Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko, Miss. is handling the arrangements. Rev. Barry Corbett will officiate the services in Kosciusko and Rev. Jerry Richardson and Rev. Barry Corbett will officiate the service in Jena. He was a past president of Mid State Management Association, a member of the LSU Alumni Association and the School of Dairy Science. He was a past participant in the Dixie Dairy Association. He retired as General Manager of LuVel Dairy in 2000. He was a management consultant for Mississippi State Dairy Science Department. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army in Korea. Sam was an avid deer hunter, loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching sports. Mr. Bass was a member of First Baptist Church in Kosciusko. Survivors include: his wife, Shirley C. Bass of Kosciusko; daughters, Lynnette Williams and husband, Marty of Madison, Miss., Leslie S. Higdon Ethel L. Higdon, age 83, of Delhi, passed away Friday, March 27, 2009 at her residence. Mrs. Higdon was born Jan. 7, 1926 in Vivian, La. to Mike and Ethel Hendrix Dunham. Mrs. Higdon lived most of her life in Franklin Parish. She was a faithful member of the Lamar Baptist Church. Mrs. Higdon will be remembered by her family as energetic and kind hearted. She was also very creative and had a passion for art. Through the years she has shared her knowledge and skills by teaching oil painting and charcoal art classes. Mrs. Higdon has completed and sold many works of art in the community. She loved and enjoyed her church family, she had developed lifelong friendships with many who will remember her as a generous and trusted friend. She will be greatly missed by a loving family and a host of friends, as she was a true inspiration to all who knew her. She passed from this life on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 in Jackson, Mississippi at the age of 86. She received the Holy Ghost at Kendricks Ferry at the age of ten and served God tenaciously for 76 years. On January 30, 1940 she married T.J. Mahoney. She and her husband founded a church in El Centro, California in 1954. Other pastorates included Church Point, Macon Ridge, Kings Community (Wisner), Kilbourne and Holden in the State of Louisiana. They also pastored in New Hebron and Brookhaven, Mississippi. They were assisting in Natchez at the time of Brother Mahoney's death in 1970. She was employed at Texas Bible College in Houston for 13 years, serving as Dietician and Ladies Dorm Supervisor. During this time she attended Life Tabernacle. Upon her retirement, she moved to Natchez and attended the church pastored by her son. For the past 19 years she has been a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Jackson. Sister Mahoney was predeceased by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Mary Jane, five sisters and one brother. She is survived by her children: Pat McNair of Florence, Mississippi, Norma and Mike McNair of Richland, Mississippi, Tim and Joan Mahoney of Moss Bluff, Louisiana; 6 grandchildren: Tanya Hanks, Michael McNair, Tommy Eubanks, John Eubanks, John Mahoney and Justin Mahoney. She is also survived by 12 great- grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie Phillips of Bentley, Louisiana; one sister-in-law, Leta Kendrick of Vidalia, Louisiana; one brother-in-law, Finley Daniels of Natchez, MS. Chester Padgett officiating, under the direction of James & Lipford Funeral Home in Graceville, Fla. Mr. Peterson was born to the union of Cyrus L. and Nancy B. Peterson on June 5, 1939 in Blakely, Ga., and passed from this life on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at his home on Turkey Creek Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Peterson was a 1963 graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering. He moved to New Orleans in 1965 and was employed by the dredging division of T.L. James, Inc. After working there for several years, he designed and constructed his own dredge, establishing A & P Dredging Co. In 1979, he moved to Winnsboro and began a land surveying company; and in 1988 moved back to his native state of Florida and began Charlie Peterson Surveying in Tallahassee. Mr. Peterson retired in 2004 and moved to Wisner, La. to be with his children and grandchildren.
