Dennis Berry, 95, of Wisner, LA. were held at South Central Baptist Church on Saturday, Jan 4. 2025. Visitation began at 1p.m. led by Brother Larry Eubanks. Internment took place at South Central Cemetery under the direction of Dennard First National Funeral Home and Bro Jim Savage. Dennis was born on Nov. 10, 1929, in his family's home near Wisner, La., and passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024, at Northeast Louisiana Veterans Home in Mnroe, LA. He was a lifelong, beloved resident of the Wisner community and a member of South Central Baptist Church, where he served as deacon since 1960. Dennis was a graduate of Wisner High School and Northeast Louisiana State College (now University of Louisiana at Monroe). Dennis served our country faithfully as a U. S. Army Military Policeman in Korean War. After his military service, Dennis worked 30 years for the Louisiana Department of Transportation. Dennis also farmed throughout his life and was an expert woodworker, building countless kitchen cabinets and pieces of oak furniture which today graces the home of Dennis's family and friends. Dennis was a kindhearted , loving and devoted son, brother, husband, Daddy, Paw Paw, and Great-Paw Paw. To know him was to love him. So much so that many friends affectionally called him Uncle Dennis or Paw Paw Dennis. Dennis had a generous soul, and he was always willing to help friends, family, and dogs far and near. His unwavering faith in Jesus made it easy for him to have faith in humanity. Dennis leaned on God and community through good times and bad. He never met a stranger , and he would often introduce himself as "Dennis the Menace, From Wisner, La." He was the best kind of menace. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents , Jim and Pearlie Berry, wife Belle Young Berry; brother Elbert Berry (Bobby); two sons James Berry and Dennis Ray Berry; and granddaughters Crystal and Rebecca Berry. Those left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Carolyn Martin (Wayne) of Gloster, La., and Amy Beasley (Bryan) of Collierville, TN.; grandchildren, Leah Pohorelsky (Peter), Madeline Michel (Nikolaus), Jordan Beasley ( Monica), Hannah Rogotzke (Chris), Jeb Berry (Summer), Molly Berry and Kasey Mayo; great grandchildren , Colton, Aliza, Elizabeth ("BB"), Cliare, Sophia, Braxton, Rheen, Maddox, special niece Mignonne Berry; beloved cousin Samuel Berry (Brittany), and dear friends Lois and Margaret. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a cause of your choice that would honor Dennis's memory and would suggest any of the following: South Central Baptist Church, Northeast Louisiana Veterans Home, or South Central Cemetery. Those honoring Dennis as pallbearers were Ronnie Ellerbe, Mike Davis, Wayne Hill, Samuel Berry, Raymond Berry and Bobby McGowen.
