All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** The Franklin Sun---- Winnsboro, Louisiana November 8, 2000-- Page 5A Volume 144--- No. 13 Fannie Elizabeth Bonner A life journey of dedicated service to her family, her work, her church and her community ended, October 31, 2000, in West Monroe, for Mrs. Fannie Elizabeth Bonner of Winnsboro. She was 81 years of age at her death. Funeral services were held at 10 A.M., Thursday, November 2, 2000 at Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Visitation at Mulhearn's was from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M., Wednesday. Rev. Karen Rogers officiated the services. Burial followed in Boeuf Prairie Methodist Church Cemetery in Fort Necessity, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Forty-three of Mrs. Bonner's 81 years were spent at Northeast Louisiana Power Cooperative, Inc. headquaters in Winnsboro. At her retirement on December 31, 1984, she was serving as executive secretary to the manager and board of directors, and was considered to the longest continuously employed worker at the same Co-op in the history of Louisiana Rural Electrification. A native of Fort Necessity, Mrs Bonner was a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church of Winnsboro, where she served as Elder, Treasurer, Clerk of Session and Sunday School Teacher. For many years she worked with the late Mrs. T.B. Dickey as treasurer of the Franklin Parish March of Dimes organiza- tion. In addition, through her efforts the Cotton Country Charter Chapter of the American Business Women's Association was organized locally in 1979. She was unanimously named Cotton Country's first Woman of the Year in 1980. Following her retirement in 1984, Mrs. Bonner re-entered the working world as part-time secretary of the Winnsboro/Franklin Parish Chamber of Commerce. This work led to her active participation in the fledgling Franklin Parish Catfish Festival where she served as treasurer from 1987 until 1993. Other community service included being secretary and reporter of the Winnsboro Lions Club and membership on the Council of Aging board of directors. Her dedicated service to the community resulted in the proclamation from the Mayor pro- claiming June 3, 1993 as Fannie Bonner Day. Mrs. Bonner was preceded in death by her parents; Mark H. Bonner, Sr. and Emma Dee Bonner; her husband, John D. Peck; brother and sister-in-law, Karl and Frieda Bonner and sister, Sallie Bonner Woods. Survivors include a brother, Mark H. Bonner, Jr. and wife Janie of Baton Rouge; sister, Jo Ann Mangold and husband, Bill of North Bend, Ohio; brother-in-law, Walter Woods and wife, Sally of Houston, Texas; nieces and nephews, Mark H. Bonner, Janie D. Guillory, K.P. Bonner, Doll Adams, Karla Bowlin, William Mangold, Jr., Mary Jo Sander, Sarah Woods Stritch and Stan Woods; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Pallbearers were K.P. Bonner, Mark Bonner Stan Woods, Rick Balwin, Peyton Bonner and Chad Nelson.
