Gerald W. Hood, the Rev. Wayne Stroud and the Rev. Karl Huff officiating. Interment followed with Military Honors at Providence Cemetery under the direction of Community Memorial Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Mr. Gilbert died Wednesday, April 5, 2000 at Willis Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport after an extended illness. He was a resident of Franklin Parish, owner and operator of his truck rig with Old Time Express, also held various duties with different oilfield companies. He was a member of the Catholic faith and attended Landmark Church. Mr. Gilbert served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Sadie S. Gilbert of Winnsboro; children, Kandy Gilbert of Monroe; Tommy Gilbert and wife Shelia of Winnsboro; grandchildren, Cassie, Maggie and Alex; brothers, Ben Gilbert and Loray of Atlanta, Georgia; Mike Gilbert and Joyce of Meadville, Mississippi; Bob Gilbert and Hilda of Homer; Johnny Gilbert and Jo of Blue Ridge Mountain, Georgia; also a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Bruce Lee, Hollis Davis, Nolan Cowart, Allen Compton, Eddie Simons and Paul Work. Honorary pallbearers were Coy Winters, Ed Trowgridge, Malcolm Sanderson and Harold Reeves.
