Robert T. Hawthorn, Sheriff of this parish, died of Pneumonia, after an illness of 8 days, on Sunday the 7th inst. Few men will be more universally regretted than Mr. Hawthorn. Prompt and efficient in the discharge of the duties of his office, his courteous deportment at all times, won the regard of those who were associated with him in business relations. A trust-worthy friend, and a kind husband and father, his death will leave a void in the community which will be hard to fill. On Monday, at 3 o'clock P.M., the remains were taken in charge by the Winnsboro Grance, of which deceased was a member, and deposited in the family grave yard 2 miles from town. The solumn [sic] and impressive Funeral rites of the Order were performed by Rev. A.W. Moore, Chaplain to the Grange, in presence of a large number of mourning friends. We tender his sorrowing family our heartfelt sympathy in their deep bereavement. NOTE: Page 2, Column 1 of the same issue announces the Sicily Island Masons will hold a funeral ceremony at Hawthorn's grave.
